SHO Varinder Singh said the accused has been identified as Darbara Singh, son of Tarsem Lal, a resident of Udhowal village and posted at Nakodar city police station. The SHO said that Darbara Singh has a licensed revolver which was misused by his son Ravi ACCUSED HAD SHOT DEAD GURBAX KAUR & INJURED HER SON Kumar, alias Ravi, who shot dead Gurbax Kaur, wife of Kashmir Chand, and seriously injured his son Deepak Kumar on April 25 at Udhowal village. According to the police, the accused Ravi barged into the house of Kashmir Chand of Udhowal village on April 25 and opened fire and killed his wife Gurbax Kaur on the spot and seriously injured his son Deepak Kumar. The Home Guard jawan has been arrested in a case registered against his son under Section 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 452 (house trespass) of the IPC and Section 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act. Jalandhar, April 27 The Sanitary Supervisor Employees’ Union, which had already announced that it would go on strike and not lift garbage from the city if its longpending demands were not met, has postponed the strike. Union members said they decided to put off the strike as a delegation of the union had a meeting scheduled with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on April 28, i.e. Friday. Bantu Sabharwal, the president of the union, said. “We will discuss our long-pending demanded in detail with the Chief Minister. Phagwara, April 27 The police have arrested five youths on betting charges and recovered Rs 16,520 from their possession on Wednesday. Phagwara SP Mukhtiar Rai said the accused were selling betting number slips at different places in the city. A case under Sections 13-A, 3 and 67 of the Punjab Gambling Act has been registered against the arrested accused at the city police station. The SP said that the three arrested accused were identified as Nitin, a resident of Bhagatpura, Sunil, a resident of Gobindpura and Dharmendra, a resident of Chachoki. As many as 16,930 MT of wheat was procured on Thursday only. Deputy Commissioner Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa said the district had expected the purchase of 2,31,600 MT of wheat for the current season. So far, we have attained 84 per cent of the target, he added. He said as per the speed of arrival, the target would be achieved in the next few days. He said the procurement was going on smoothly and uninterrupted. “The transfer of payments to the accounts of farmers is also being done regularly,” the DC said. An ignored Ambedkar statue behind the huge village peepal tree peeks out from the background. Marigolds in a plastic bag are distributed to workers and audience, to be thrown when the CM comes, but many eager villagers rain them a bit earlier as someone prematurely declares his arrival. The bus stand walls and all major throughfares on the road bear huge posters of the AAP candidate in violation of the code of conduct.
