Station House Officer (SHO) Mohinder Pal said 10 grams of heroin was recovered from suspects identified as Jaspreet Kaur, alias Neha, a resident of Bir Pind village falling under the Nakodar Sadar police station, Onkar Singh, alias Rinki, a resident of Mohem village falling under the Mehat Pur police station, and his son Jaspreet, alias Jassi. The SHO said a case under Sections 21(B), 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act had been registered against the suspects. OC MAN HELD FOR SELLING LIQUOR Phagwara: The Nakodar city police have arrested a migrant on the charge of selling countrymade liquor at a public place. Investigating officer Mandeep Singh said the suspect had been identified as Nasir Hak, a native of West Bengal and presently living in front of Arya School here. The IO said the suspect was selling liquor in front of a liquor vend at Ambedkar Chowk. As many as 550 ML of liquor was seized from his possession. A case under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Punjab Excise Act had been registered against the suspect. He was later released on bail. OC 5 days on, DCP marks probe into missing brothers’ case Family members accuse police officials of bias, harassment Aparna Banerji Tribune News Service Jalandhar, August 22 Five days after two brothers Manavjit Singh Dhillon and Jashanbir Singh Dhillon plunged into the Beas from the Goindwal bridge alleging harassment by Jalandhar Thana No. 1 police officials, family and friends of the duo, led by Manavdeep Singh Uppal and Sarabjit Singh, today met the DCP (Investigation), Jalandhar, Harvinder Singh Virk, demanding a departmental inquiry and action against the cops responsible for alleged harassment of the brothers. The Jalandhar DCP has marked an inquiry into the case to ADCP (Investigation) Bhupinder Singh. Meanwhile, the family of the two boys also approached the police in support of SHO Navdeep Singh today. In their complaint letter, the brothers’ family has formally named three police person- DIVERS HIRED TO TRACE BODIES While bodies of the two brothers are yet to be found, the family has employed a divers’ group from Ludhiana to search for them. Sarabjit Singh, a friend and lawyer for the brothers, said, “There has been no headway in the search yet. The letter of complaint, from the brothers’ cousin Manavdeep Singh Uppal, alleged that the behaviour of the three named officials was biased towards the boy’s (Gurmeet’s) side; that the boy’s side, in presence of police officials, threatened Parminder Kaur and Manavjit Dhillon, among other family members, and the police showed an inclination for the boy’s side. The complaint also accuses the aforesaid police officials of harassing Manavjit, falsely implicating him in a DDR under Sections 107 and 151 of the CrPC —- all of which caused the eventual suicide. It also alleges that the “working of all cameras” of the police station No. 1 were “deliberately and intentionally damaged” to prevent the truth from getting out. The complaint concludes: “Harassed by the police officials”, Manavjit and Jashanbir Dhillon committed suicide by jumping from bridge of Beas river in Kapurthala district on August 17, 2023. The complaint states that the police officials used their power “illegally and in a biased manner”, therefore “strict departmental inquiry may be conducted” against them. DCP (Investigation) Harvinder Singh Virk, said, “An inquiry has been marked to the ADCP (Investigation) to look into the case and the investigation by the Kapurthala police will also continue side by side at their own level.” SSP Kapurthala, Rajpal , Singh could not be contacted for his comments. He was booked under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act on December 7, 2015 and was declared a PO on June 10, 2016. The owner of the bike, Jaskaran Singh, a resident of Satnampura, told the police that he went to the hospital after parking his bike. When he came out of the hospital, he found it missing. OC Aakanksha N Bhardwaj Jalandhar, August 22 Civil Surgeon Dr Raman Kumar Sharma today took stock of the medical facilities being provided to flood-hit people living in temporary shelters at Nahl village here. Sharma said 202 people were living in 93 tents in the grain market of the village. He enquired about the well-being of the people and took feedback on the medical facilities being ensured to them by health teams. The Tribune had on Monday highlighted that people have been living in tents for the past 40 days amidst hot weather conditions and were suffering from healthrelated problems. BKU leaders to gherao Phagwara SDM’s office today Jalandhar, August 22 Leaders of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, Doaba, today announced to gherao the office of the Phagwara SDM tomorrow over ~43crore pending sugarcane dues for the past five years. SDM Jai Inder Singh yesterday said a notice had been issued to sugar mill owners to vacate the properties. The auction process was set to start. However, BKU, Doaba, members, led by president Manjit S Rai, said: “It might not solve the purpose as a larger chunk of the attached property had already been sold with the connivance of government officials. So, we will gherao the SDM office”. Taking up another issue, Rai said: “A SAD leader, who was earlier with the Aam Aadmi Party, had indulged in illegal mining in Jalandhar Cantonment villages, including Kukad Pind and Hardophrala. “Though he had a contract to dig up earth up to 7 feet, he went up to 30-32 feet. We took up the issue with the administration and the AAP leadership, but to no avail. We gave 10-day time to government. It was also apprised that the flow of water in the Beas was 2.53 lakh cusecs and it is expected that it could be around 3 lakh cusec so necessary steps are to be suggested in this regard. Four held with illegal pistols, 11 cartridges The suspects in police custody with the items recovered from them in Jalandhar on Tuesday. TRIBUNE PHOTO Tribune News Service Jalandhar, August 22 The CIA staff of the city police arrested four persons from various places and recovered three illegal pistols and 11 live cartridges from their possession here today. The suspects have been identified as Gagandeep, a resident of Kaccha Kot in Jalandhar, Harjinder Singh, a resident of Kapurthala, Rahul Dadri, a resident of Alli Mohalla, here, and Kamaljeet Singh, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir. Gagandeep and Harjinder were arrested from near Basti Bawal Khel canal. While Rahul was arrested from Jyoti Chowk, Kamaljeet was nabbed from Harnamdaspura T-point here. As per the police, the suspects were arrested following a tip-off. They were in the city for some criminal activities. Police officials said cases under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act had been registered against the suspects at various police stations. Further investigations were on in the case. “The suspects were today produced in a court. The police sought their remand for further interrogation,” they said.
