The police have registered a case. OC WINE, CIGARETTE SHOPS LOOTED Phagwara: Three unidentified car-borne armed miscreants looted a wine shop near the city police station. The masked robbers looted cash worth ~50,000 and liquor worth ~20,000 at gunpoint from an employee, Bittu, of the wine shop. On a complaint lodged by Bittu, the police have registered a case under Section 379-B of IPC. In another incident, unidentified miscreants burgled a cigarette shop at local Mandi road. The burglars entered the shop after breaking open its locks and took away goods worth thousands. The police have registered a case. The deceased has been identified as Ankul Kumar, a resident of Raj Nagar. His throat had cut marks, apparently inflicted with a sharp weapon, indicating that the victim has been murdered. A passerby spotted the body near the drainage area of the Leather Complex around 9:15 am and informed the police control room. After getting information, the Basti Bawa Khel police reached the spot and initiated investigations into the matter. As per information, Ankul, the only son of his family, left his home on Tuesday evening, but didn’t return. Station House Officer (SHO) Dhaminder Kadian said the accused had been identified as Vishal Nahar, a resident of Sianni Wal village. The SHO said the accused was wanted in a case of assault registered in 2017 and was declared a PO in 2023. Assistant SubInspector Rannjit Singh was conducting further investigations. The IO said a missing report had been registered. OC RSS LEADER PASSES AWAY Jalandhar: A former state office-bearer of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh Devendra Gupta (88) passed away during treatment at a private hospital in Jalandhar on Wednesday. Even though he was brought up in Qadian, he started with his duties in the RSS at Jalandhar after having obtained his B.Ed degree from a college here. As a pracharak, he served in Jalandhar, Kangra, Bathinda, Batala and Amritsar. He served as a teacher in a college of Sathiala in Gurdaspur and later as principal in AB College, Pathankot. Having remained as a functionary of the RSS at the district level, he was a part of the state team later. The RSS leadership has condoled his demise. The kingpin has been identified as Ajay Pal Singh, alias Raja Ambarsariya. Four of his associates and gang members were apprehended on January 10. The police recovered 400 grams of heroin, a country-made pistol with magazines and live rounds and stolen goods such as a motorbike, two cars, a gold chain and a mobile phone from his possession. He was wanted in six of these cases. After his arrest, two more theft cases were traced. While Ajay’s associates were traced and arrested on January 10, Ajay committed a number of crimes since then. On the intervening night of January 12 and 13, Ajay Pal stole a Kia Sonet car (UP-15-DM-6051) from Ambassador Hotel near BSF Chowk at gunpoint. A case in this regard was registered under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the New Baradari police station on January 13. Further, on the intervening night of January 14 and 15, Ajay Pal stole a Swift car from the Division Number B police station, Harmandir Sahib, Amritsar, at gunpoint. A case was registered under Sections 379-B and 365 of the IPC at the Division B police station in Amritsar on January 15. The police recovered the Kia and Swift cars, a gold chain and a mobile phone from his possession. Ajay Pal, alias Raja Ambarsariya, would be presented in the court. held for murder bid Phagwara, January 17 The Nakodar Sadar police have arrested a resident of Gurdaspur district on the charges of attempt to murder and firing. Investigating officer (IO) Major Singh said the suspect had been identified as Surinder Pal Singh, a resident of Mohalla Chakri near Valmiki temple, Kalanaur, in Gurdaspur district. In his complaint to the police, Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Sahem village, said he was returning home from his poultry farm on a motorcycle on the evening of January 1. The suspect waylaid him, snatched ~2,000 from him and fired at him from a pistol. He, however, escaped unhurt. The suspect then attacked him with sharp weapons with an intention to kill. He suffered serious injuries in the attack. A case was registered against the suspect and two of his unidentified accomplices. — OC SGPC polls:65 new voters registered at Model Town Jalandhar, January 17 As Parkash Purb of Guru Gobind Singh was observed in the gurdwaras here today, the district administration chose to set up stalls outside the premises for registration of voters for the SGPC elections. The response to the voter registration, however, remained feeble. Since there was no banner or poster regarding the SGPC polls and voter registration put up at the counters in the gurdwaras, most of the devotees did not get to know about any such facility being made available today. At Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Model Town, which witnesses the highest footfall of the sangat on the Gurpurb, only 65 new voters were enrolled till this afternoon. — TNS
