The victim, Anil Kumar, a resident of Mehatpur, told the police that he went to a showroom after parking his bike. When he returned, he found his bike missing. OC EARRINGS SNATCHED Phagwara: Two unidentified miscreants snatched gold earrings from a woman riding pillion with her husband on an Activa scooter near Eastwood village on Thursday. OC BODY FOUND ON BANKS OF CANAL Phagwara: A middle-aged unidentified person was found dead under mysterious circumstances on the banks of a canal near Zandiala Manzki village on the PhagwaraNakodar road on Thursday evening. OC 4 ARRESTED ON THEFT CHARGE Phagwara: The Goraya police have arrested four persons involved in a theft at Shri Ram Mandir Rishi Kutiya, Goraya. The police recovered stolen goods and cash from their possession. SHO Goraya Sukhdev Singh said the police also recovered a car used in the crime. The suspects have been identified as Suraj Nath of Moga, Gopi Nath of Ludhiana, Sahil of Sirsa and Sheikhu Nath of Ludhiana. Two of their other accomplices are still at large. They would be nabbed soon, said the SHO. Ram Pari died on Tuesday night after she was bitten by a pack of 15 stray dogs at the village in Kapurthala district. Meanwhile, the Kapurthala police have also increased surveillance in the affected villages in wake of the recent dog bite incidents. Notably, recent dog bite cases in the area were reported from migrant and farm labourer families. Ram Pari, a Darbhanga native, was a resident of Passan Kadim village, while Pinki Devi, a resident of Chuhrpur, who was attacked by dogs on January 28 this year, also hailed from Bihar. A seven-year-old child who died due to attack by stray dogs hailed from a migrant labour (Bihari) family at Jhanduwal village. A 12-year-old child from Busowal village was also attacked by dogs. The Jhanduwal family immersed the remains of their seven-year-old son in the local river and moved back to Bihar. The man was rescued by villagers. ■ A woman, Pinki Devi, was attacked by a pack of stray dogs on January 28. Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said Chatar Singh, a resident of Dhilwan village, had filed a complaint against Sunny Mahindru, Ajay Kumar, Mishti and Manpreet Singh alleging extortion. He said the complainant had alleged that the suspects posed themselves as field officers of the Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar, and visited his underconstruction house. Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said they got a tip-off that a gang was involved in stealing vehicles. Acting on the information, the police intensified checking in the city. They noticed a person riding a scooter at the Sodal Chowk. On suspicion, they signalled the scooterist to stop for checking. The CP said during interrogation, it came to fore that the suspect was riding a stolen scooter. The police immediately nabbed the suspect identified as Rahul Sharma, a resident of Sat Nagar. Sharma said further probe led to the recovery of another scooter from him. Four cases of theft and one DDR were already registered against the suspect. Further investigations were on in the case. Though no loss of life was reported, tools worth lakhs were gutted in the incident. After getting information, two fire extinguishers were rushed to the spot. By the time fire ten- ders reached, flames spread inside the entire godown area. It took firemen around two hours to douse the flames. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Santosh Kaur, daughter of Surinder Singh, a resident of Mundi Chohlian village, had filed a complaint with the SSP, Jalandhar (rural), saying her marriage was solemnised with Balwindar Singh, who was serving in the Punjab Police, in 2020. She said in her complaint that her husband and his family started harassing her demanding more dowry three days after the marriage. IO Avtar Singh said a case was registered. He was granted anticipatory bail by a court but dowry items including jewellery were recovered from his possession. OC Jalandhar, February 9 Thieves struck at the branch of Axis Bank at Bhawanipur in Kapurthala last night and decamped with cash worth lakhs. CCTV footage of the incident shows three masked men breaking into the bank, situated on the Goindwal road in Kapurthala. The police said as the suspects cut Internet and security system wires, the bank was yet to give the details of exact loss. The incident took place between 12 am and 1 am on the intervening night of February 8 and 9. A party worker suffered injuries on his forehead in the clash. After AAP MLA from Jalandhar Central area Raman Arora left the camp around 1 pm, some youth attacked one Mahinder Singh. The victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital from where he was referred to a private hospital. Mahinder’s supporters said the youth, who attacked him, were supporters of Manu Birring, husband of former Congress councillor Parveena. Parveena and Manu left the Congress to join AAP in October last year. Since Manu’s entry into the AAP the two , had not been going along. Today, their supporters had a tiff over display of their pic- tures on banners and hoardings for the event. Raman Arora said: “Mahinder is our old party worker. All those who attacked him will not be spared.” Meanwhile, Parveena, excouncillor, said: “My husband is being wrongly dragged into the controversy. The camp got over at 1 pm. The MLA and my husband left the venue around same time. The clash took place after 2 pm. When he was not even there, how can he be blamed?” The victim undergoes treatment at a hospital in Jalandhar.
