Uggi police post in-charge Balvir Singh who is the investigating officer in the case said that the accused has been identified as Mangal Singh, a resident of DIPS Colony, and his unidentified accomplice. Sakandar Lal, a resident of Jalandhar locality, complained to the police that the accused uprooted and stole two trees from his plot at Uggi. The IO said that a case under Sections 379 (theft) and 34 (committing a crime with common intention) of the IPC has been registered against the accused and his unidentified accomplice. OC FOUR BOOKED FOR CHEATING Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have booked four unidentified miscreants including a woman on the charge of cheating another woman. Renu Sharma, wife of Sunil Datt Sharma, a resident of Mohalla Sudan, complained to the police that she was learning to drive a scooter with her husband on the NurmahalNakodar road near a petrol pump on February 26 evening when the accused, including a woman, asked to give them her golden jewellery and fled with two gold bangles and a gold ring. Investigating Officer Vijay Kumar said that a case under Section 420 (cheating) of the IPC has been registered against the accused. OC MAN BOOKED FOR KIDNAPPING YOUTH Phagwara: The Mehat Pur (Nakodar) police have booked a Kapurthala village resident on the charges of kidnapping a youth and threatening his family. Jagiro Bai, a resident of Dharme Dian Chhana village, complained to the police that the accused Sandeep Singh, a resident of Sher Singh Dian Chhana village in Kapurthala and his accomplices, kidnapped her son Rannjit Singh and threatened her with dire consequences. Investigating Officer Davinder Singh said that a case under Sections 365, 506 and 34 of the IPC has been registered against the accused. The Lohian Khas police also booked Baldev Singh, a resident of Kot Esse Khan in Moga for kidnapping Amarjit Singh, a resident of Fateh Pur Bhangwan village on a complaint from his wife Jaswinder Kaur, said IO Avtar Singh, adding that a Zero FIR was registered. OC SIX BOOKED FOR ASSAULT, RIOTING Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have booked six persons on the charge of assaulting a villager. Investigating Officer (IO) Vijay Kumar said that the accused have been identified as Mohamad Hussain, Mushtak Ali, Sadardin, a resident of Fateh Pur village, Mohamad Yakub, Abdul Rashid, a resident of Shamsha Bad village, and Saif Ali, a resident of Kot Badal Khan village. Sadar Din, a resident of Ajtanni village, complained to the police that the accused waylaid and assaulted him at Shamsha Bad village on March 8 with sharp weapons. A case under Sections 323, 325, 341, 148 and 149 of the IPC has been registered. Having remained a boxer in his earlier years, Rinku has been known for holding demonstrations even during his stint as a councillor. He was a member of the Dynamic Group, formed against his own ruling party Congress in the MC House in 2012. In Congress, Rinku started his career as a councillor from his ward in Basti Danishmandan in 2006 in an MC bypoll after the demise of his father, who was also a councillor. His wife Sunita Rinku too had remained councillor in 2007 and 2017. He became an MLA from Jalandhar West in 2017 but lost in 2022. He had retired as DHO from Hoshiarpur after serving the department for 29 years. He had retired prematurely saying that he wanted to spend more time in social work. But the authorities seem to have ignored the city’s civic aspect which in this case translates to poor sanitation with streets stinking because of the accumulating garbage heaps. Hers is a story of resilience and strength. Years ago, Manjit Kaur got to know that her daughter was suffering from cancer. The shocking revelation turned her life upside down and when doctors told her that adulterated food and chemical-laced crops were the main reason, she decided to shun chemicals and adopt natural farming. The DC along with Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Major Dr Amit Mahajan, AROs visited Government Arts and Sports College, State Patwar School, Director Land Records, Government Sports School, where strong rooms are to be set up for all nine Assembly constituencies. Kapurthala, March 14 The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Thursday arrested one more accused, namely Gurudev Singh, a resident of village Khangah in district Kapurthala, for misappropriating a grant of Rs 45,000 by colluding with others out of a total Central grant of Rs 4,95,000 received by Khangah gram panchayat in the year 20112012. These funds were sanctioned to the said panchayat for construction of pucca houses for the poor and homeless under the Indira Awas Yojana. The accused was absconding for the last seven years. It is worth mentioning that of the total 132 accused involved in the case registered about seven years ago, 119 had already been arrested so far and 11 of the accused had passed away while search for the remaining two accused was in progress. Two held with 6.1-kg opium Nawanshahr, March 14 Three days after the Nawanshahr police claimed to have had arrested two persons with 6.1 kg of opium, the police have nominated one suspect who had given the assignment to the youngsters. The accused is yet to be arrested, police source said. As per information, he belongs to Chuharpur village in Nawanshahr and is into farming while his brother lives abroad. The police said there is no prior case registered against Harpreet. The police further said that the accused was yet to inform the two arrested youngsters regarding the destination where they were supposed to sell the drugs.
