The deceased has been identified as Gurpreet Singh (36), a resident of Bhulrai village. The incident came to light when one Sonu went to the farmhouse to take cattle feed and saw the body with injury marks on the face and head. He immediately informed the police. After getting information, Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti reached the spot. The police shifted the body to the mortuary of the Civil Hospital, Phagwara, for post-mortem examination. Notable, Gurpreet, who was residing alone at his farmhouse, was addicted to alcohol. However, the police are investigating the matter. No case has been registered so far. OC FOUR BOOKED ON ASSAULT CHARGE Phagwara: On a complaint lodged by Ajay Kumar, a resident of Jamalpur village, Phagwara, the police have booked four youths on the charges of attacking and injuring the complainant with sharp weapons and snatching his gold chain on Friday night. The suspects have been identified as Pawan, Gyan Chand, Dheera and Ankush, all residents of Jamalpur village. Personal enmity was said to be the cause behind the attack, said the police. No arrest has been made so far. A case under Sections 323, 324, 148 and 149 of the IPC has been registered against the suspects. OC TWO HELD WITH 400 GM HEROIN Garhshankar: The STF, Jalandhar Range, arrested two persons at a naka near Boda village here and recovered 400 grams of heroin from their possession. STF Jalandhar Inspector Hardeep Singh said on the basis of a tip-off, the advance team laid a naka. Two scooterborne persons - Kulwant Singh, a resident of Bagwai, and Neeraj, a resident of Garhshankar, - were stopped for checking. During search, 400 grams of heroin was recovered from their possession. The suspects will be presented in the court to seek their remand. OC BIKER DIES IN ROAD MISHAP Hoshiarpur: A motorcyclist died in a road accident near Talwara here. According to information, Jatinder Singh, alias Lucky, a resident of Chintpurni, told the police that his elder brother was going to meet his sister on his bike. When he reached near Shah Canal, his motorcyclist was hit by a two-wheeler. As a result, he fell on the road and died on the spot. The police have registered a case against the suspect, at the Hajipur under police. OC Over 16L voters to exercise franchise at 1,951 polling booths Tribune News Service Jalandhar, March 16 As the Election commission of India announced the schedule for Lok Sabha elections, model code of conduct has come into force with immediate effect in the Jalandhar Parliament constituency. Over 16 lakh voters would exercise their franchise at 1,951 polling booths in the constituency. In a marathon meeting with all nodal officers, District Electoral Officer-cum Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal has made it clear to the officials that the model code of conduct should be implemented strictly in the parliament constituency. He also asked MC Commissioner Gautam Jain, who has been appointed as the nodal officer for the implementation of the model code of conduct, to ensure the removal of political advertisement hoardings, unipoles, banners, and unauthorised defacement in 24 hours. All wall writings, posters or defacement in any other form, including cut-out, hoardings, banners and flags, on any government property should be removed within 24 hours from the announcement of elections by the Election Commission. Terming maximum participation of youth in the voting process as priority, Sarangal asked officials to enhance SVEEP activities so that the Man held with foreign revolver Garhshankar, March 16 The Mahilpur police have arrested a person and recovered a foreign revolver and six live cartridges from his possession. The suspect has been identified as Avtar Singh, alias Avi, a resident of Phagwara, Kapurthala district. Giving information, SHO Baljinder Singh said ASI Balveer Singh, along with a police party, was conducting checking. They signalled a person to stop for checking. During checking, a foreign revolver and six live cartridges were recovered from him. He could not produce any document or licence. The committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer Vishesh Sarangal. Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-Additional District Election Officer Jasbir Singh will be the nodal officer of this committee. As many as 40 employees have also been deployed to closely monitor various news channels and social media platforms. Employees of various departments will constantly monitor the news appearing in news channels, social media and print media. Apart from this, pre-certification of the content of advertisements and promotional materials will also be given by the committee as per applications received from the candidates. The committee will also consider matters related to paid news, if any found. For Jalandhar (SC) seat, there are 1,951 polling stations. There are a total of 16,41,872 voters, including 8,54,048 male, 7,87,781 female and 43 transgender. These vehicles include 13 Isuzu Highlanders, 10 Mahindra Bolero Neo and five Kia Carens. Sharing details, Police Commissioner Swapan said each police station in Jalandhar had been equipped with 13 Isuzu Highlanders, ensuring heightened patrolling and rapid response. Additionally, eight new Bolero Neo vehicles had been allocated to various police posts across the city. He said in a commitment to public safety, five Kia Carens and two Mahindra Bolero Neo vehicles had been dedicated to the Emergency Response System. He said with the addition of vehicles, the city police reaffirmed their dedication to proactive policing and community service with this comprehensive enhancement of resources. Ban on carrying weapons, firearms in Hoshiarpur dist Our Correspondent Hoshiarpur, March 16 In view of the Lok Sabha elections, District Magistrate Komal Mittal, issuing orders under Section 144, has imposed a complete ban on carrying explosive materials, mortars, splinters, sticks, knives and any type of licensed arms that can be used to disturb peace and tranquility in Hoshiarpur district. Arms licence holders within the limits of Hoshiarpur district have been asked to deposit all types of their licensed weapons at their nearest police station or valid arms dealers. The orders will remain in force till June 6, 2024. The orders do not apply to Army personnel, paramilitary forces, police personnel, bank security guards, shooters who are members of the National Rifle Association and participating in any event, those who have got Z Plus security or who have been exempted from surrendering arms by the court in view of personal security. 2 of drug trafficking racket nabbed 260 gm heroin, 150 gm ‘Ice’, ~8L drug money seized Jalandhar, March 16 The city police today claimed to have busted a drug trafficking network with the arrest of two persons. The police recovered 260 grams of heroin, 150 grams of ‘Ice’ (crystal meth) and drug money worth ~8 lakh. Divulging details, Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said the police got a tip-off that a gang was involved in drug smuggling in the city. After getting information, the police arrested Akash Gupta, a resident of Jalandhar, and recovered 100 grams of heroin from his possession. Further interrogation led to the arrest of Karmi, a resident of Phagwara. As many as 150 grams of ‘Ice’ and ~8 lakh drug money were recovered from his possession. During investigation, Akash told the police about another car, which was also purchased from drug money. The police seized both cars. The Police Commissioner said a case under Sections 21, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the Jalandhar Cantonment police station. The total recovered includes 260 grams of heroin, 150 grams of ‘Ice’, ~8 lakh drug money and two cars.
