Gurabaksh Singh, a resident of Namoliyan village, told the police that Baljeet Kaur, a resident of Jandiali, along with her daughter Lovepreet Kaur and son Lakhveer Singh, allegedly defrauded him of ~7.50 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad. Hoshiarpur: The police have arrested two peddlers and recovered huge quantity of drugs from them. The Garhshankar police arrested Paramjit Kaur, alias Matto, a resident of Denowal Khurd village, and recovered 10 grams of heroin and a large quantity of sedative injections from her. The Hajipur police arrested Hrithik Kumar, a resident of Talwara, and recovered 5 grams of heroin from him. Separate cases under the NDPS Act have been registered against the suspects at the respective police stations. OC TWO HELD WITH 3 PISTOLS, 15 BULLETS Hoshiarpur: The police have arrested two suspects from different places and recovered three countrymade pistols and 15 live cartridges from them. The Hariana police arrested Jatinder, alias Aman, alias Nandu, a resident of Lalpur, who was declared a fugitive in a case. The police recovered two country-made pistols and one live cartridge from him. The Mukerian police arrested Nek Ram, a resident of Damtal, and recovered a country-made pistol and 14 live cartridges from him. OC ONE HELD WITH 10 GM HEROIN Phagwara: The police arrested a drug peddler and recovered 10 grams of heroin from his possession on Wednesday night. Jaspreet Singh, DSP, said the arrested suspect was identified as Sanju Malik, a resident of Palahai Gate, Phagwara. He was nabbed at a check-point. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against him. OC 6th rank, Rashi PSEB Class X results: Jasika, Balraj of Placedatto become IAS dreams Nakodar top district with 98.62% marks Avneet Kaur Tribune News Service Jalandhar, April 18 Jasika, a student of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Nakodar, and Balraj Singh of Gobind Sarvar Senior Secondary School, Bulandpuri Sahib, Nakodar, have topped in the district, by securing 98.62 per cent marks each in the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Class X exams, the results of which were declared today. Both have scored 641 out of 650 marks, and got fifth position in the state. Jasika and Balraj are followed by Mannat Bhatia of Excelsior Convent High School, Atta, Goarya, who secured 97.54 per cent marks to bag the second position in the district. The third spot has been shared by Manpreet Singh and Navpreet Kaur, both students of KPS Baal Bharti Public Senior Secondary School, Chuhar, who secured 97.38 per cent marks each. A total of 18 students (including five toppers) from the district made it to the merit list. Mannat Bhatia expressed her happiness at achieving second position in the district. She said, “I am grateful to my teachers and parents for their support. Now, I’ve chosen the medical stream with an ambition to become a doctor like my father.” Manpreet Singh, who secured third-rank in the district, has opted for the commerce stream in Class XI and aspires to become either a chartered accountant or an IPS officer. Reflect- ing on his family’s circumstances, he revealed that his father passed away last year due to a heart attack, leaving his grandfather as the sole provider for the family. He said, “My grandfather works as a security guard in a private office. My goal is to study diligently and succeed so that I can shoulder the financial responsibilities of my family.” Navpreet Kaur, daughter of Jagdeep Singh, a car mechanic, said though she was expecting good marks and was confident of making it to the merit list, she never thought she would be one of the district toppers. Navpreet said she had opted commerce stream and was interested in pursuing a career related to the field of economics. Sixteen out of the total 18 positions in the district were cornered by students of private schools affiliated to the PSEB. With an overall pass percentage of 96.79, Jalandhar has been placed at 14th position in the state. Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and Nawanshahr have attained better positions with higher pass percentage. Hoshiarpur has got seventh tine during exams, she said, “I never felt overwhelmed by studies. I always enjoyed learning and memorised lessons on the same day.” Jasika, daughter of Harjit Kumar, who owns a car repair and washing workshop, said she had now opted medical stream as she wishes to pursue career in nursing. Balraj, another topper, expressed his aspiration to pursue a career in teaching and has already enrolled in the non-medical stream. “Mathematics is my favourite subject. I aim to become a math professor in the future,” he shared. Balraj, son of a farmer Kuldeep Singh, said he was determined to make his parents proud and provide them with a dignified life in position in the state with 98.21 pass percentage, followed by Nawanshahr at eighth position with 98.09 pass percentage and Kapurthala at ninth position with 97.93 pass percentage. Our Correspondent Mukerian, April 18 A case of sacrilege of two holy swaroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib has come to light in Pota village of Mukerian. The incident took place at Gurdwara Shri Guru Ravidas Sabha located in the village. Gurdwara’s Pathi Harbans Lal informed the police about the incident. According to the police, the complainant stated that two holy swaroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in gurdwara were damaged. As soon as the news was received, the police reached gurdwara and started investigation. The police are scanning CCTV camera footage installed around gurdwara to find clues about suspects involved in the sacrilege. No CCTV cameras have been installed on the gurdwara premises. Vijay Dutt, member of the Punjab State Food Commission, checks food at a school in Phagwara. Phagwara, April 18 Punjab State Food Commission member Vijay Dutt reviewed the mid-day meal scheme by conducting surprise checks at various government schools, anganwadis and ration depots in nearby villages of Chachoki and Tibbi in Phagwara today. During checking, Dutt stressed upon the need to maintain mid-day meal food test register in schools, pro- vide quality food to children and maintain cleanliness while preparing meals. He interacted with students and also ate the meal himself. The drinking water quality in schools was also checked. Dutt said that TDS (Total dissolved solids) in drinking water should be checked from time to time at those places where ROs was not provided. Dutt also instructed that helpline numbers of the commission be displayed in schools. He said if any beneficiary had any complaint regarding the National Food Security Act, he could register his/her complaint on the commission’s helpline number 9876764545. He also directed that health check-up of students and medical check-up of mid-day meal workers in schools be conducted every six months. — OC Jalandhar, April 18 Two men were arrested by the Shahkot police and 5 grams of heroin was recovered from them. The duo was arrested at a naka at the Gidderpindi Toll Plaza. They were identified as Pargat Singh, alias Paggu, and Jaskaran Singh, alias Ammu, both residents of Kirtowal Khurd, Harike, Tarn Taran. A case was registered against the duo at the Lohian police station. The police said further investigation was in progress. In another case, the Bhogpur police arrested a woman near Gate Nizamudinpur. The police spotted a woman carrying a small purse in her hand. On seeing the police , she threw her purse in grass near the gate’s pillar. The police stopped their vehicle and made enquiries from woman. She revealed her identity as Jagir Kaur, a resident of Lakkhan village in Kapurthala. On searching the purse thrown by the woman, the police found 10 grams of heroin in it. A case was registered against the woman at the Bhogpur police station. — TNS Talwara, April 18 Rashi Choudhary, a student of Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Students, Talwara, has bagged sixth rank in Punjab by scoring 640 out 650 (98.46%) marks. Her father Jaswinder Kumar, has retired from the Indian Army and runs a shop in Talwara. Her mother Anjana Kumari is a homemaker. Rashi has made up her mind of becoming an IAS officer or an aeronautical engineer. Rashi said she had already started preparation to appear in the UPSC exam in the future. She wishes to join ISRO after doing aeronautical engineering. Rashi said, “No matter how much hard work I have to do for this, I will not back down. I did not made any extra efforts to get a place in merit list.” She said, “I did not take tuitions because I did selfstudy. Sejal Rana of Dream Public High School, Ramgarh Sikri, stood 17th in the state with 629/650 (96.77%) marks. — OC One arrested for raping, impregnating minor girl Tribune News Service Jalandhar, April 18 In a heart-wrenching incident, a 13-year-old girl was raped by his neighbour multiple times during the past three months. The victim’s father came to know about the incident after she complained of pain in her stomach. When the victim was taken for medical check-up, doctors revealed that she was pregnant. A case in this regard was registered at the Navi Baradari police station on Wednesday under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and the suspect, identified as Charan Das, alias Sunny Baba, a resident of Beas, Amritsar, was arrested. As per the police, the victim’s father, a migrant who hails from Gwalior, had moved to Jalandhar around decade ago. The police said he was living with his family near the Railway quar- ters, and was working as a cobbler. His wife died a few years ago and he was living alone with his daughter. In his statement to the police, the victim’s father stated that the suspect, a nearby resident, would visit his residence when he was away at work and his daughter was alone at home. “He threatened my daughter, warning her not to disclose anything to anyone, or else he would harm both of us,” he said. He further said that on April 14, he took his daughter to the Civil Hospital, Jalandhar, after she complained of a stomach ache. During examination, doctors discovered injuries on girl’s private parts and confirmed her pregnancy. Subsequently, he managed to coax his daughter into revealing that their neighbour had been forcibly engaging in physical relations with her. She said special checkposts had been set up across the district to keep a vigil on anti-social elements, besides 63,000 kg of lahan had been seized so far. — TNS sharp weapon, arrested Tribune News Service Jalandhar, April 18 A man was arrested for attacking a village resident with sharp weapon on April 14. The Adampur police said Sandeep Singh, alias Bunty, a resident of Patara, was booked on Wednesday on complaint of Manjit Singh, a resident of Uccha village. When Manjit’s child was playing in a village street, Sandeep started abusing him. When Manjit was asked Sandeep why he was doing so, the latter allegedly attacked him with a datar (sharp weapon). An MLR was filed following Manjit Singh’s injuries after which a case was registered against Sandeep. As per the police, after investigation Sandeep was arrested and weapon used by him in the incident recovered from his possession. He was shifted to the Kapurthala jail after being presented in a court today.
