INBRIEF SIX BOOKED FOR ASSAULT Phagwara: The Lohian Khas police have booked six villagers on charges of criminal trespass and assault. The accused have been identified as Chanan Singh, his son Ranjit Singh, Sarabjit Singh, Lovpreet Singh, Babbu and Gurmukh, all resident of Ismailpur village. Jaswindar Singh of the same village complained to the police that the accused forcibly ploughed his 11 kanals on June 11 and when he tried to stop them, the accused attacked and injured him seriously. OC MAN HELD FOR CASH THEFT Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have arrested a villager on charge of stealing cash, passport and other items from a house. The accused has been identified as Pargat Singh, a resident of Chuheki village. Salidar Kaur, wife of Jasveer Singh, a resident of the same village, complained to the police that the accused stole Rs 15,000, one Passport and other items. A case has been registered against the accused and stolen items have been recovered from his possession. OC THREE 'DRUG PEDDLERS' HELD Phagwara: The Nakodar police have arrested two persons on the charge of selling intoxicating tablets. Investigating Officer Paramjit Singh said 68 intoxicating tablets were recovered from the possession of the accused Kulwant Singh, alias Kantu, and Shukaran, alias Karni, residents of Chak Kalan village. A case under Sections 22/61/85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. The Nurmahal police arrested Amitabh Kumar, alias Raju, of Chuheki village with 50 intoxicating tablets. OC SEVEN BOOKED FOR MURDER BID Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have booked seven miscreants on the charge of attempt to murder. The accused have been identified as Balwant Singh, Simranjit Singh, Sanni, Sandeep, Bittu and Malkit, all residents of Madhepura village in Ludhiana, and Kali of Moga. Karnail Singh, a resident of Beetal village, complained to the police that the accused attacked him with sharp-edged weapons and seriously injured him. oc MAN HELD WITH 22 LIQUOR BOTTLES Phagwara: The Nakodar police have arrested a villager on the charge of smuggling liquor. TRIBUNE PHOTO: SARABJIT SINGH 2,949 appear for re-NEET in city Candidates given addl 15 min to complete paper Rishika Kriti Tribune News Service Jalandhar, June 21 As many as 2,949 medical aspirants from Jalandhar appeared for the NEET examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Sunday, with a majority of candidates describing the paper as moderate than the cancelled NEET-UG examination held on May 3. The examination was conducted from 2 pm to 5:15 pm across eight centres established at various PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalayas in Jalandhar. This time, candidates were given an additional 15 minutes to complete the paper, extending the duration beyond the standard examination schedule. According to students, biology emerged as the easiest section, comprising largely straightforward and NCERTbased questions. Physics, however, was considered comparatively challenging consisting of lengthy and conceptbased questions while chemistry included a few questions that aspirants felt were beyond the usual NCERT-oriented preparation pattern. Meir, a NEET aspirant, said, “Biology was very easy and had straightforward questions. Physics was lengthy and time-consuming. It was a mix of tricky questions that required conceptual understanding. I found chemistry the hardest as some questions appeared to be outside the usual NCERT pattern.” Another candidate, Sukriti, noted that while the overall paper was manageable, physics was the hardest section than the May examination. “This time, both physics and chemistry had a few questions that seemed out of the NCERT pattern. They were not very challenging to solve, but are generally the types of questions students tend to skip during preparation,” she said. Truck drags car for 100 m, six escape Our Correspondent Phagwara, June 21 Six members of a family narrowly escaped a major tragedy after a speeding container truck allegedly rammed into their car and dragged it for nearly 100 metre on National Highway-1 near Sugar Mill Chowk in Phagwara on Saturday evening. The family was travelling from Amritsar to Chandigarh when the incident occurred. As their vehicle reached the Sugar Mill Chowk area, a container truck coming from behind reportedly struck the car while attempting an unsafe manoeuvre. The impact was so severe that the car was dragged along the highway for a considerable distance, causing extensive damage to the vehicle. The occupants of the car escaped with minor injuries and shock despite the seriousness of the crash. The vehicle suffered major damage to its body and bumpers, and debris was scattered across the road. On receiving information about the accident, officials of the Punjab Road Safety Force and local traffic police teams led by Inspector Aman Kumar rushed to the spot. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.

The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
