INBRIEF SIX NABBED FOR DRUG PEDDLING Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested a man on the charge of selling heroin. Ten gram of heroin was recovered from the possession of the accused Gurjit Singh of Bute Dian Chhana village. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. The Nakodar police arrested three persons, Sandeep Singh, Akash and Dhiraj, resident of Chitti village under Lambarra police station, with 17 intoxicating tablets. Meanwhile, the Bilga police arrested Buta Singh of Burj Hassan village with 74 intoxicating tablets. The Shahkot police arrested Bachitar Singh of Pati Haveli Malsian village with 32 intoxicating tablets. OC 2 BOOKED FOR MURDER BID Phagwara: The Shahkot police have booked two miscreants on the charges of attempt to murder and firing. The accused have been identified as Rajan and Jashan of Sandhawal Mand village. Manjit Kaur of Rampur village complained to the police that the accused barged into her house and fired with a pistol. A case under the BNS and the Arms Act has been registered. OC Woman nabbed for ‘sacrilege’ in Kartarpur village Tribune News Service Jalandhar, June 18 A migrant woman was arrested by the Jalandhar Rural Police in connection with an alleged sacrilege incident at Sanghwal village in Kartarpur on Wednesday. After locals complained to the police regarding the sacrilege and misbehaviour by the woman at the local gurdwara, police teams reached the spot, conducted an investigation and took the woman into custody. The woman has been identified as Radhika, a resident of Bihar. The police said the accused’s permanent address is being verified. An FIR has been registered against the woman at Kartarpur Police Station under Section 299 of the BNS on June 17. As per reports, the incident happened at Shri Guru Ravidas Gurdwara at Sanghwal. As per witnesses, a woman entered the gurdwara and behaved in a disorderly manner. She is accused of tearing pages of a gutka sahib, triggering panic among children present at the gurdwara. Villagers apprehended the woman and also beat her up, informing the police soon after. On the statement of gurdwara granthi Kamaljit Lal, the woman was arrested. He said a religious programme was underway and children were performing path. He had gone out of the main hall for a brief period when the accused woman entered, took gutka and tore Shri Guru Ravidas Gurdwara at Sanghwal. the pages. In an earlier case registered at Basti Bawa Khel police station on May 19, torn pages of a gutka sahib were found scattered along a roadside in the Raja Garden area. Unknown persons were booked under the new Act in that case. Firing at Shahkot house leaves woman injured Tribune News Service Jalandhar, June 18 Unidentified assailants opened fire at a house in Rampur Sandawal village under Shahkot police station, leaving a woman seriously injured. According to information, three masked men entered the house armed with pistols and fired at the occupants before fleeing the spot. The injured has been identified as Manjit Kaur, who was rushed to a hospital. Family members said they had been opposing alleged drug and gambling activities in the area, which had led to tensions in recent months. They claimed to have received threats earlier as well. Hence, masked men on a bike came to the village, entered the victims’ house and started firing indiscriminately, witnesses said. Soon after, the masked assailants fled the spot. On the day of the incident, Gurjit Kaur, daughter of Buchan Kaur, had come to visit her mother. The two were in the kitchen when they heard gunshots. As they stepped out, Gurjit sustained a gunshot injury to her leg and was admitted to hospital. The incident triggered panic in the village, with residents demanding the arrest of those involved. SHO Shahkot said a case has been registered against three unidentified persons and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend them. CM announces ~18.57-cr projects for Phagwara Lok MilniDivyang committee leaders put under house arrest Ashok Kaura Phagwara, June 18 Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday announced development projects worth ~18.57 crore for Phagwara while addressing a large gathering during the Aam Aadmi Party’s Lok Milni programme held at Gandhi Chowk here amid unprecedented security arrangements. The Chief Minister reached Gandhi Chowk in the evening and interacted with residents, party workers and local representatives. He announced a package of ~18.57 crore for the constituency. The projects include ~1.20 crore for the installation of five tubewells, ~5.91 crore for the improvement of key roads, including Palahi-Hoshiarpur Road, Railway Road and the Sukhchain Nagar-Chandigarh Highway link road, ~5.21 crore for the construction and upgrading of roads connecting Gandwan, Sugar Mill Road, Urban Estate, Dosanjh Kalan, Hargobind Nagar and Chahal Nagar, ~87 lakh for the Heritage Street project at Gurdwara Sukhchain Sahib, ~2 crore for the construction of a rose garden, ~2.19 crore for urban street development works, ~97 lakh for streetlighting projects and additional grants of ~30 lakh each for development works in Athouli village and other civic improvement projects. The father of the victim, a resident of Kutibal village under Lohian Khas police station, complained to the police that an unidentified person kidnapped his daughter on the pretext of marriage. Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the VB said the accused has been arrested on a complaint lodged by a resident of Gohawar village of Goraya. These budding players held hockey sticks and started playing after taking inspiration from former Indian Hockey team captain Manpreet Singh. Olympian Manpreet’s achievement has sparked pride across Mithapur and there is a fresh motivation among aspiring players. “For the last two or three days, my children have only been talking about their Manpreet paaji,” said Anu, mother of Navneet and Avneet. “Whenever Manpreet comes to Mithapur, he makes it a point to meet the academy children.
