SHO Aman Saini said eight gram of heroin was recovered from the possession of the accused Kuldeep and Gurpreet Singh, residents of Dhaliwal village, and Raja Singh of Chak Vendal village in Nakodar. The Shahkot police arrested Som Nath, alias Soma, of Saidpur Jhirri village with 3.93 gram heroin. The Nakodar police arrested Aniket of Dhaliwal village with 40 intoxicating tablets. OC ROAD ACCIDENT: BIKER BOOKED Phagwara: The Bilga police have booked a motorcyclist on the charge of causing death by negligence. The accused has been identified as Shiv Shankar, a native of Bihar and living at Nagra village. Harpal Chand of Begampura village complained to the police that the accused was driving his two-wheeler negligently and fast and hit his brother Ravidar Kamar’s motorcycle, killing him on the spot. OC TWO HELD FOR SNATCHING CASH Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested two miscreants on the charge of snatching cash. The accused have been identified as Amardeep, alias Chinnu, of Basant Colony, Lohian Khas, and Joban Preet Singh of Rampur Jagir in Kapurthala, and presently living at Mannak village. Gurdev Singh, a resident of Nangal Ambian village, had complained to the police that the accused waylaid him on June 6, attacked him and snatched Rs 5,000, a smart phone and other items. OC Jalandhar, June 16 As the government geared up to roll out the benefits under the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana from July 1, Jalandhar has registered nearly 2.07 lakh women beneficiaries. The enrolments have been carried out in a phased manner through a network of 25,900 Mahila Satkar Sakhis working in the district’s nine Assembly constituencies. Officials said Mahila Satkar Sakhis — volunteer mobilisers empanelled through the MSewa portal — are assigned to individual booths. Equipped with a unique ID, they conduct door-to-door visits to spread awareness, assist women with documentation and fill in beneficiary forms. Once documents are ready, Sakhis assist beneficiaries in visiting a nearby Anganwadi centre or Sewa Kendra to fill in The DC interacts with Mahila Satkar Sakhis at the centre. FILE their details online, after which Rs 1,000 will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of general category women and Rs 1,500 to SC women. According to official data, of the total registered beneficiaries, 1.05 lakh belong to the SC category. Registrations have been carried out in three phases where Phase 1 began on April 14, coinciding holds a Punjab-based Aadhaar card, is eligible to apply. Women from the SC category will additionally need to present an SC certificate. Working or retired government employees and income tax payees are not eligible. SC certificates can be submitted later Women from the SC category, who do not possess an SC certificate, can still register under the scheme. They will receive Rs 1,000 per month initially and once the SC certificate is produced, their monthly benefit will be upgraded to Rs 1,500. The pending difference of Rs 500 per month for previous months will also be released at that time. To update their profile, beneficiaries will need to visit an Anganwadi centre or Sewa Kendra and make the changes on the MSewa portal. Our Correspondent Mukerian, June 16 The police today detained Rajat Mahajan, president of the Old Pension Restoration Sangharsh Committee, Mukerian, ahead of the Chief Minister’s visit to Bhatla village near Garhdiwala. According to committee members, the organisation had decided to show black flags to the Chief Minister on June 17 as a mark of protest over the long-pending demand for restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). In view of the proposed protest, the police reportedly picked up Mahajan from his residence and brought him to Mukerian police station, where he was kept for around four hours. Leaders of the committee, including state coordinator Jasvir Talwara, Sanjeev Dhoot, Balwinder Tak, Satish Kumar, Brij Mohan, Rishabh Dev, Manjit Singh, Jaswant Singh, Paramjit, Ramakant, Khushwant Singh, Sukhjin- der Singh, Surinder Singh, Rajesh Kumar, Naseeb Kumar, Arun Kumar and Gurpal Singh, criticised the action. They alleged that the government was trying to suppress the voice of employees instead of addressing their demands. They said the restoration of the OPS remained the most important demand of government employees and urged the government to take immediate steps. They maintained that detaining leaders would not silence the movement for the OPS. As news of Mahajan’s detention spread across the town, a number of employees and supporters started gathering outside the police station. Committee members claimed that due to pressure from colleagues and supporters, Mahajan was released later in the afternoon. Following his release, leaders of the organisation reiterated their commitment to continue the struggle for restoration of the OPS. 2 nabbed with 800 g heroin, ~1.72L cash Share fee hike details: DC to private schools in Kapurthala Tribune News Service Jalandhar, June 16 The Crime Branch of the Commissionerate Police, Jalandhar, arrested two persons and recovered 800 g of heroin, ~1.72 lakh and a twowheeler vehicle from their possession. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur and under the guidance of the DCP , Investigation, Manpreet Singh Dhillon, ADCP Inves, tigation, Jayant Puri and ACP Investigation, Amarbir , Singh. The operation was carried out by Inspector Sarabjit Singh, in-charge, Crime Branch, Jalandhar. The CP said the Crime Branch team apprehended two youths on suspicion near Subhana Road, Urban Estate, Phase-I. During investigation, the accused were identified as Sandeep of Phagwari Mohalla, Garha, Jalandhar, and Paras, alias Happy, near Rama Mandir, Garha. During the search, the police team recovered 800 gram of heroin and Rs 1.72 lakh from the possession of the accused. An FIR under the NDPS Act has been registered. The CP further said both the accused are already involved in a criminal case registered at Police Station Division No. 7. Further investigation is underway and efforts are being made to trace the links of the drug trafficking network and identify other persons involved in this illegal trade. Kapurthala, June 16 DC Akash Bansal has directed all private schools to immediately provide the information regarding the fee increase to the Education Department. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had announced to cap all fee hike at a maximum of 5 per cent annually. He had also directed the schools to refund the excess fee to par- ents if the fee was raised by more than 15 per cent over the preceding three years. Presiding over a meeting of the District-Level Fee Regulatory Committee, the DC stated that as per the reports received so far, only 60 private schools have provided details pertaining to fee hike. TRIBUNE PHOTO: MALKIAT SINGH Clock Tower revived in Jalandhar after 34 years Tribune News Service Jalandhar, June 16 The CT Group, in collaboration with the Punjab Press Club, unveiled the restored historic Clock Tower at Company Bagh, reviving one of Jalandhar’s iconic landmarks after 34 years. The Clock Tower, whose foundation was laid on February 10, 1982, had long served as a trusted source of time and a prominent symbol of Jalandhar. Over the years, it became an integral part of the city’s identity. However, after ceasing operations in 1992, the structure stood remaining schools to furnish the required information without further delay. The DC also instructed education officials to verify the records submitted by the schools. He issued a final warning to institutions that have failed to submit the documents, stating that action would be initiated against defaulters.— OC Lyallpur Khalsa College Technical Campus Shade on wheels House of drug peddler razed Jalandhar, June 16 The Commissionerate Police, Jalandhar, in coordination with the Municipal Corporation, on Tuesday demolished an illegal property belonging to a drug peddler. The encroached structure, allegedly built on government land using money earned from the illegal drug trade, was demolished as part of the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign. The Commissioner of Police said the Municipal Corporation had received information regarding an illegal construction raised on government land by notorious drug peddler Dharminder of Dhankiya Mohalla near Rama Mandi. The property was allegedly built using income earned from his narcotics trade. Acting promptly on the information, teams of the MC and city police conducted a joint operation and demolished the encroached structure. Official data shows that nearly 40,000 beneficiaries have been enrolled here so far, including 22,000 women from the SC category. Similarly, phase 2 commenced on May 15 across 40 constituencies in Punjab, covering four Jalandhar constituencies, Kartarpur, Nakodar, Phillaur, and Shahkot. On June 15, the phase 3 began across 68 constituencies statewide. In Jalandhar, the focus is on the urban population covering Jalandhar Cantt, Jalandhar Central, Jalandhar North and Jalandhar West constituencies. Officials said any woman above 18 years of age, who is a registered voter in Punjab and OPS protest bid foiled, leader detained ahead of CM’s visit silent for decades, evoking memories of a bygone era.
