The suspects were identified as Harman Preet Kaur, her mother Jasbir Kaur and another woman Asha Rani, all residents of Pasla village. The complainant told the police that the suspects neither sent him abroad nor returned his money. A probe has been initiated into the matter. No arrest has been made yet. Investigating officer (IO) Sukhdev Singh said the missing person was identified as Jarnail Singh, a resident of Sardar Wala village. The IO said Jarnail went to a private clinic in Jalandhar for a check up on July 22, but did not return home. The IO said a missing report had been registered in this connection. OC 50-YR-OLD MAN DIES BY SUICIDE Phagwara: An auto-rickshaw driver reportedly hanged himself from a tree at the cremation ground in Pasla village near Goraya on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Sukhwinder Pal (50) of Pasla village. He was living with his inlaws at Behram village near Phagwara for a long time. He used to drive three-wheeler in Ludhiana. The police registered a case and sent the body to the civil hospital for an autopsy. OC HOUSE BURGLED IN CHAHAL NAGAR Phagwara: Thieves struck at the house in Chahal Nagar here on Saturday. House owner Uttam Chand and his wife Anita told the police that they were away to work when the burglary took place. Burglars entered the house after breaking locks and took away household goods including ornaments worth Rs 1 lakh. The police registered a case in this connection. OC TWO BOOKED FOR CHEATING Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have booked a father-son duo on the charge of cheating. Investigating Officer (IO) Davinder Singh said the suspects were identified as Hardev Singh of Aadramaan village and his son Kuljt Singh. Baljit Singh of Aadramaan village complained to the police that the suspects prepared fake documents of his 5.5 acres land and got its mutation transferred in their names by impersonating him. Baljit said the suspects also mortgaged the land with a bank and took loan. The IO said a case was registered against the suspects after conducting an inquiry. The deluge highlighted the lack of preparedness of the local municipal corporation (MC), sparking frustration among residents. Rainwater inundated several low-lying areas, posh localities, and major roads, forcing residents to wade through submerged streets. Motorists struggled as water- logged roads and scattered potholes, compounded by flowing garbage, made navigation challenging. Key locations, including the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Model Town, Lamma Pind Chowk, Damoria Underbridge, Transport Nagar, Nakodar Chowk, Kapurthala Chowk, Pathankot Bypass Chowk, and Ladowali Road, were particularly hard hit. The chaos left commuters stranded and delayed their arrival at respective destinations, while at some places residents battled to keep rainwater out of their homes. According to information, cops from the Mahilpur police station arrested Davinder Kumari, alias Renu, a resident of Langeri Road, and recovered 518 gram of heroin, large number of intoxicating pills and Rs 25,000 drug money from her. While the city police arrested Yogesh Kumar, alias Vicky, a resident of Deep Nagar, and Bhag Singh, alias Bhaga, a resident of Santokh Nagar, and recovered 130 gram of narcotic powder from them. Similarly, cops from the Dasuya police station arrested Charanjit Singh, alias Happy, a resident of Mangat, and recovered 7 kg of poppy husk from him. Voicing her frustration, Shivani Sharma, a resident of Har Gobind Nagar, said, “The streets have been inundated for the past 15 days due to overflowing sewers. Now, with rain, water has entered our homes. Despite numerous complaints to the municipal corporation, nothing has been done.” Other residents echoed similar sentiments, criticising the municipal corporation for its inaction. They noted that during by-elections, the MC was attentive to even minor issues, but now their complaints about sewerage problems and contaminated water supply go unaddressed. Industrialists in Transport Nagar also faced difficulties, with the approach road becoming muddy and impassable. Long traffic jams at prominent intersections further compounded the woes of residents. Angry residents took to social media to express their displeasure, with many blaming the municipal corporation for the persistent waterlogging issues. “This is not a new problem during rain. The municipal corporation and the administration need to address choked sewers issues promptly,” Mohit, a local resident, said, while adding that just two hours of heavy rain had once again exposed tall claims of the government, underscoring the urgent need for improvement in infrastructure and better preparedness by the city’s civic authorities. Swapan Sharma, Commissioner of Police (CP), said after receiving a tip-off, a police party from the Division No. 1 police station laid a naka near CJS Public School, service lane, GT Road. The police party intercepted a Baleno car (bearing registration number PB02-DR-0724) at the naka. The CP said the police party conducted a thorough search of the car and its occupants during which 150 gram of heroin was recovered from the driver and his accomplice.
