The victim was going on his Activa scooter when the suspects stopped him and snatched cellphone and cash from him. The police initiated a probe into the matter after registering a case under Sections 379B and 34 of the BNS in this connection. OC ONE NABBED FOR WOMAN’S MURDER Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested a suspect on the charge of murdering a 34-year-old woman. Jai Pal, Station House Officer (SHO), said the suspect was identified as Kashmir Singh, alias Shira, a resident of Mohalla Khurlapur in Mehatpur, who murdered his sister-in-law identified as Jaspreet Kaur (34). Jasbir Singh, alias Mithu, a resident of Mohalla Khurlapur, complained to the police that his brother Shira bludgeoned his sister-inlaw to death with bricks. The SHO said a case under Section 103 (murder) of the BNS had been registered against the suspect. Giving information, Commissioner of Police (CP) Swapan Sharma said Satish Malhotra, a resident of Santokhpura, had reported a theft at his shop — Malhotra Enterprises — in Diskusha Market. Malhotra discovered that an unknown individual had broken into his shop and stolen Rs 1,14,800 in cash on August 10. Upon receiving complaint, the police launched an investigation into the matter. Investigating officer (IO) Harjit Singh said 2 kg of poppy husk was recovered from the possession of the suspect identified as Santokh Singh, alias Sokha, a resident of Bajuha Khurd village. The IO said a case under Sections 15B, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the suspect. OC PO ARRESTED AFTER FIVE YEARS Phagwara: The Bilga police have arrested a woman proclaimed offender (PO) who had been absconding for the past five years. Investigating officer (IO) Satpal said the accused was identified as Pinki, a resident of Mohalla Gajipur in Aadampur. She was wanted in case of cheating and breach of trust and violation of the Tour Operators and Travel Agents (Regulation) Act, 2022, registered in October 2019. TNS WOMAN, SON ASSAULTED Phagwara: The Nakodar Sadar police have booked three persons, including a woman, on the charge of assaulting a woman and her son. Investigating officer (IO) Harjit Singh said the suspects were identified as Ghula, a resident of Kullaran village, his wife Ranjana Kala, and their son identified as Katta. Baljit Singh, a resident of Kullaran village, complained to the police that the suspects barged into his house and attacked and injured him and his mother identified as Babli. The IO said a case had been registered against three suspects. OC Hoshiarpur, August 17 The Sadar police station have arrested two suspects on the charge of damaging Himachal MLA Vivek Sharma’s car with an iron rod two days ago on the Una road. It was claimed that the suspects had hit the MLA’s car with an iron rod with an intention of attacking him. However, during investigation it turned out to be a case of road rage in drunken state. While talking to reporters, SP Manoj Sharma said the MLA had given a statement to the police on Friday after which the suspects were identified and arrested. After getting information Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Dr Lehimber Ram along with Medical Officer Dr Sanjeev Lochan inspected the site. When asked, the SMO said it seemed that some drug addicts had been using and throwing syringes on a vacant plot for the past several years. The SMO said he had informed Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti and sought an investigation and action against suspects involved in this regard. It has been observed that neither the municipal corporation nor the police are ready to initiate action against plot holders. — OC Phagwara, August 17 The police have nabbed 10 suspect involved in different criminal activities in and around Phagwara. This was confirmed by Vatasala Gupta, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kapurthala, on Saturday. In the first case, the police arrested and booked three miscreants under Sections 333,115(2), 191(3) and 190 of the BNS for attacking a family and injuring them at their house near the industrial area on August 15 night in Phagwara. The arrested suspects were identified as Rashpal Singh, alias Kala, a resident of Phillaur, and Sukhjinder, alias Raju, and Sunny, both residents of Mehatpur, while their 11 accomplices managed to flee. The SSP said victim Prem Chand, a resident of Chachoki, told the police that Rashpal had a bad eye on his young daughter and often followed her. He said more than 12 armed bikeborne assailants barged into his house and attacked his family. The victim said the suspects managed to flee when he raised an alarm. Injured Prem Chand was admitted to the local civil hospital. In the second incident, the police arrested two suspects and booked them under Sections 379, 457, 380 and 379B of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for their involvement in different crimes. The arrested suspects were identified as Avinash Mishra, a resident of Gobindpura, and Karan Patel, a resident of Basant Nagar in Phagwara. In the third case the police arrested one vehicle thief and recovered one stolen car bearing registration number PB-8BT-8014 and three stolen mobile phones from his possession on Friday night. The arrested suspect was identified as Sukhwinder Kumar, alias Hani, a resident of Kanshi Nagar in Phagwara. In the fourth incident, the police arrested three persons and booked them under the Arms Act after recovering one pistol, six live cartridges and one Maruti Zen car bearing registration number PB06D-5788 from their possession. The arrested suspects were identified as Onkar Singh, alias Golu and Prince, both residents of Pandwan village and Inderjit, a resident of Chandpur village in Jalandhar district. In the fifth case, the police arrested a drug smuggler after recovering 4 gram of heroin from his possession on Friday night. The arrested suspect was identified as Sulinder Kumar, a resident of Dhaliwal village. SKM protests outside minister’s residence Tribune News Service Phagwara, August 17 The Nurmahal police have arrested one suspect and booked two others on the charge of snatching a mobile phone and certificates from a girl. Station House Officer (SHO) Pankaj Kumar said the arrested suspect was identified as Deepak, a resident of Pasla village. Paramjit Singh, a resident of Aade Kali village, complained to the police that he was returning home from Jandiala with his daughter Tannu on August 14 afternoon when the suspects snatched a bag containing a mobile phone and certificates from his daughter near a canal. The SHO said a case was registered against the suspect and his two accomplices identified as Lili and Hussan Lal of Pasla village. He said raids were on to nab the duo. — OC Jalandhar, August 17 Several farmer organisations under the banner of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Saturday held a protest in front of the residence of Local Government Minister Balkar Singh. Leaders of farmer outfits, including Balwinder Singh Malli Nangal of Doaba Kisan Sangharsh Committee, Kashmir Singh Jandiala of the BKU (Rajewal), Rashpal Singh of the Kirti Kisan Union, Sandeep Arora of the All India Kisan Sabha, Jaswant Singh of the BKU (Lakhowal) and Dharminder of the BKU (Dakounda) led the protest. Farmers put up tents outside the minister’s residence and even displayed signage along with their demands. More than 200 doctors marked their presence at the event, organised in response to the IMA’s national call for 24-hour closure of non- essential medical services, starting from 6 am today. The IMA Jalandhar chapter was led by its president Dr Deepak Chawla, honorary secretary Dr Archana Dutta and finance secretary Dr Abhishek Kumar in the event. The BJP Mahila Morcha also held a protest over rape and murder of the Kolkata doctor. Headed by the morcha president Shama Chauhan, the protesters held a march from Company Bagh Chowk to Maharishi Valmiki Chowk. Protest march held in Nawanshahr The Nawanshahr chapter of Indian Medical Association c m y b (IMA) took out a protest march on the city’s roads today, demanding justice and severe punishment for those responsible for the brutal gang rape and murder of a resident doctor in Kolkata. The march, which began at the local Sukhmani Hospital, saw the participation of several doctors and medical professionals from the region, demonstrating the widespread outrage within the medical community. Prominent figures leading the march included Dr Paramjit Maan, national assistant secretary of the IMA and Dr Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi, MLA from Banga. They were joined by several other members of the local medical fraternity, including Dr Manjit Singh, president of the local IMA unit and Dr Jaswinder Singh, among others. During the protest, the IMA representatives strongly condemned the heinous crime while expressing their deep anger not only over the murder, but also over the recent vandalisation at the Government Medical College, Kolkata, and the violent attacks on trainee doctors who were peacefully raising their voices for justice. The IMA called for the immediate arrest of the perpetrators and insisted that they face exemplary punishment through a fasttrack court. They also emphasised on the urgent need for stronger legislation to curb the growing incidents of violence and vandalism against hospitals and medical professionals. To further press for their demands, the IMA Nawanshahr, submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner for PM Narendra Modi. found near fuel station on Goindwal Sahib road Tribune News Service Jalandhar, August 17 The body of a young man was found near a petrol station on the Goindwal Sahib road in Kapurthala today morning. A bike was also found near the body. The police reached the spot and took the body into custody. The body was kept in the mortuary of the civil hospital. An investigation has been initiated into the matter. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Sub-Division) Harpreet Singh said it was suspected that the bike rider met with an accident involving an unknown vehicle on Friday night. The deceased youth was identified as 24year-old Jatinder Singh, son of Vijay Singh, a resident of Naven Pind Bhatthe village . As per information, a passerby informed the police control room on Monday morning that a body of a youth was lying near a petrol pump located on the Goindwal Sahib road. After receiving the information, a Sadak Suraksha Force (SSF) team reached the spot and took the body and the bike (bearing registration number PB- 09-AK-9591) parked nearby into possession. Meena Devi, mother of the deceased youth, said she was informed in the morning by an auto-rickshaw driver, Heera Singh, an acquaintance of hers, that her son Jatinder Singh’s body had been found on a roadside. She said her son had serious injuries on his head. Amarpreet, a resident of Nave Pind village, who was a friend of the deceased, said he was with Jatinder Singh last night. Amarpreet said he left Jatinder at his home and went back to his house yesterday night. When he came to know about the incident in the morning, he reached the spot, said Amarpreet. An Assistant Sub-Inspector posted with the Sadak Suraksha Force team said they received a call from the control room today morning that an accident had taken place near a petrol station on the Goindwal Sahib road. The Sadak Suraksha Force team reached the spot and took the body into possession, he said.
