SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the accused identified as Soma and Shinderjit Kaur, residents of Kirpalpur colony, Phagwara, were nabbed at a check-point. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. OC GOLD, CASH STOLEN FROM HOUSE Phagwara: The police have booked some persons on the charge of stealing cash and jewellery from a house. Inderjit Singh of Khiva village complained to the police that thieves barged into his house and decamped with Rs 20,000, jewellery and passport. A case under Sections 331 (house trespass) and 305 (theft in dwelling house) of the BNS has been registered against them. OC 3 BOOKED FOR SNATCHING CASH Phagwara: The police have booked three miscreants on the charge of snatching cash from a petrol pump salesman. The accused had been identified as Paramjit Singh of Ami Wal village, Balwindar Singh, of Sahej Lal Pur village in Moga and Rajwindar Singh of Sher Pur Tiaba village in Moga. Bhagat Singh of Chanan Windi village complained to the police that the accused had snatched Rs 64,000 from his petrol pump on August 5 by threatening a salesman. A case has been registered against the accused. OC Tribune News Service Four, including three women, in police custody in Jalandhar. 3 women arrested in ~40,000 theft case Tribune News Service Jalandhar, 1 September In a major breakthrough, the Jalandhar Rural police have arrested four persons, including three women, for their alleged involvement in a Rs40,000 theft case at Punjab National Bank’s Mehatpur branch. The operation was part of a special campaign against narcotics trafficking. The accused have been identified as Ananya and Saloni of MP Bhavna of , Rajasthan and Devinder Sharma of Ludhiana district. SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh emphasised that special police teams had been deployed across all sub-divisions in Jalandhar Rural to effectively combat crime. The arrests followed a complaint lodged on August 27 by an elderly woman Jasbir Kaur, who reported that Rs 40,000 was stolen from her by a woman on the bank premises. The suspect then fled in an autorickshaw. Acting swiftly on the com- plaint, the police team led by SHO, Mehatpur Police Station, Inspector Jaipal, under the supervision of Onkar Singh Brar, utilised CCTV footages from the bank and surrounding areas to trace the movements of the suspects. The police were able to follow the trail of the auto-rickshaw, leading them to the accused. The case was registered on August 31. The use of modern tracing methods, combined with the CCTV evidence, was instrumental in identifying and apprehending the culprits. During investigation, it was revealed that two accused had prior criminal records. Bhavna has three theft cases registered against her in two different districts, while Ananya has one theft case in Ludhiana. The police have also seized the autorickshaw used in the crime. The accused were produced before the court and further investigation is underway to unearth any potential links to other crimes in the region. Jalandhar, September 1 A 24-year-old girl attempted suicide by consuming phenyl tablets in her room at Defence Colony here on Saturday night and wrote a three-page suicide note accusing Sukhchain Singh, owner RS Global Immigration, of raping her. The police, on the complaint of the victim, arrested Sukhchain Singh under Section 64 of the BNS at Navi Baradari police station. As per FIR, the victim wanted to move to Singapore or some European country on a work visa and was searching for immigration companies dealing in work visas, when she came across a video of Sukhchain Singh on Youtube. She dialled the number given on the Youtube video, and visited the office on August 20 to enquire about the Singapore work visa. After speaking with a company employee, she was asked to visit the office on August 21 where she met Sukhchain. The accused reportedly offered to arrange a work visa for her to Singapore at Rs 5.75 lakh. The victim, in her complaint, told the police that she received a message from Sukhchain regarding a semi- nar in a hotel on August 31 regarding study and work abroad. She said she went to the hotel to attend that seminar, but the hotel employee sent her to a room, saying that room had been booked by the immigration company. However, when she entered, she found the room empty. Within 5-10 minutes, Sukhchain arrived, assuring her that other students would be joining shortly, and offered her a soft drink. The victim said she lost consciousness after consuming a cold drink, only to later realise that she had been sexually assaulted. The FIR states that unable to bear what happened to her, the victim consumed phenyl tablets and revealed everything to the owner of Schooling Visa Consultancy, where she worked. Her boss immediately rushed to her room and took her to PIMS Hospital and, in the meantime, he alerted the police about the incident. Meanwhile, the police claimed that the girl had undergone medical examination at the Civil Hospital and further investigation in the case was underway. They said they were verifying the accusations of the victim and collecting related evidence, based on which further action would be taken. But players have been facing several problems online and the Sports Department has offered the players to register offline too. As per information, until now 1,000 players from the district have registered themselves. Last year, the number was over 8,000. The reason is complex online website where the players were trying to register themselves. A coach from the department said the players were approaching him and saying that they were not able to register themselves,” he said. “We have offered the players to register offline in case they face problems. They have to fill the form and must bring an Aadhar card with them,” said Gurpreet Singh, District Sports officer. Hotelier duped of ~3 crore in investment scam, 5 booked Tribune News Service Jalandhar, September 1 Rajan Chopra, owner of Ramada Hotel in Jalandhar, has become the victim of a major financial scam, losing approximately Rs 3 crore. The Jalandhar police have launched an investigation in the case following the registration of an FIR at the Bhargo Camp police station recently, based on Chopra’s complaint. The suspects have been identified as Parminder Singh Sabharwal, Pavanish Sabharwal, Gurleen Kaur Sabharwal and Parmeet Sabharwal, all residents of Chhatarpur Marg, DLF New Delhi. Additionally, , Umesh Sahan, a resident of Bhargo Camp, has also been named in the case. As per information, Chopra 4 suspects belong to Delhi, one Jalandhar was introduced to the Delhibased suspects through Umesh Sahan. The suspects allegedly persuaded Chopra to invest in a lucrative coworking space business, promising substantial returns. Trusting their proposal, Chopra agreed to a deal worth Rs 3 crore. However, after the money was transferred, the accused neither started the business, nor returned the funds, leading Chopra to suspect a foul play. In a further act of deception, Chopra, in his complaint, had claimed that the suspects had forged his signature on a fake partnership deed, effectively shutting him out of any control or knowledge of the supposed business venture. When Chopra discovered the forged documents and the lack of progress on the investment, he immediately reported the matter to the police. SHO, Bhargo Camp, Ashok Kumar, confirmed that after having received a complaint from Chopra, an FIR under relevant sections of the BNS was been registered on Friday. He said five suspects from Delhi had been nominated in the FIR and the investigation was ongoing. The accused has been identified as Gurpreet Singh Ghag, a resident of Narang Shahpur locality, Phagwara. Complainant Rakesh Bhanot, a resident of Hadiabad, Phagwara, told the police that he had financial dealings with Gurpreet Singh who fraudulently obtained the power of attorney for a property owned by Bhanot’s wife Kiran and transferred it in the name of his co-partner Surinder Singh, a resident of Sargundi, Phillaur, on October 28, 2011. Gurpreet also took seven blank checks from Rakesh and his wife and deceitfully acquired Kiran’s signatures on blank documents. He later created a sale agreement to transfer the property to himself and filed a petition in a court, falsely claiming that the property had been mortgaged with the bank. Gurpreet then deposited two blank cheques through his brother-in-law, Rajapreet Singh Bajwa, leading to their dishonour. Bhanot said Gurpreet and his accomplices Jeet Singh promised in the court to Drug peddler’s assets worth ~52L frozen Tribune News Service Former SC Corp chief joins BJP Jalandhar, September 1 Former chairman of the SC Corporation Mohan Lal Sood joined the BJP today in the presence of former MP Sushil Rinku. Rinku said the party was expanding under the leadership of Sunil Jakhar in Punjab. Praising Sood for his great work while he was in service, Rinku said Sood was always an honest man. “We are happy to have him in the party,” he added. — TNS Jalandhar, September 1 In a decisive action against drug trafficking, the Jalandhar Rural police have frozen properties worth Rs 52 lakh belonging to a drug smuggler in Hoshiarpur district. This latest action includes the freezing of a 9-marla house valued at Rs 45 lakh and a car worth Rs 7 lakh. These assets were seized following the arrest of Lakvir Chand, a resident of New Shanti Nagar, Bajwara, Hoshiarpur, who was caught with 3.4 kg of opium. An additional 2.6 kg of opium was also recovered from a co-accused. The freezing of these properties has been approved by the competent authority in New Delhi, marking another step in the ongoing efforts by the Jalandhar police to combat drug-related crimes. As part of the continued crackdown on narcoticsrelated crime, the police have frozen 63 properties in the district. These include 15 properties in Sadar, Nakodar, 12 in Shahkot, 10 in Phillaur, 9 in Goraya, 5 in Mehatpur, 3 in Bhogpur, 2 each in Kartarpur, Lohian, and Lambra, and 1 each in Maqsudan, Nurmahal, City Nakodar and Adampur. SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh highlighted the importance of such actions in dismantling the financial networks of drug traffickers. The police have secured a oneday remand for further investigation. LED, laptops, ghee stolen Phagwara, September 1 A shop was reportedly burgled in village Rihana near Phagwara last night. Shop owner Narinder Kumar said burglars entered the shop after cutting the shutters and took away one LED, two CCTV cameras along with DVR and some cash. The police have registered a case. In the second incident, thieves stole a laptop from the room of LPU student Mohammad Rijaan in Adarsh Nagar last night. Similarly thieves stole another laptop from the room of Raj Kumar the same night. Driver Mohammad Nayeem told the police that he was bringing ghee from Delhi to Punjab in his truck and stopped before a dhaba at Jamalpur, but found 25 boxes of ghee stolen he when came out of it. — OC
