The Garhshankar police initiated a probe after registering a case in this regard. Pankaj Kumar, manager of the petrol station in Garhi Mansowal village, told the police that unidentified thieves stole 4.95 lakh lying in the office of the station. He said two suspects were seen stealing cash from the office in the footage of the CCTV cameras installed at the fuel station. OC MAN NABBED FOR DOWRYHARASSMENT Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a Delhi resident for dowry harassment. Investigating officer (IO) Jagdev Singh said the suspect was identified as Shohit Gupta, a resident of Shalimar Bagh, West Delhi. Aashtha Gupta, a resident of Kartar Nagar, Shahkot, had complained to the police that her husband and mother-in-law harassed her for bringing more dowry. The victim said they mentally torched and thrashed her before throwing her out of their home. The IO said a case had been registered against the suspects in this connection. OC Fleeing from naka, driver rams car into roadside tree On search, the police recover 315 litre of alcohol from vehicle to stop the car. But, the driver swiftly turned the car towards Hajipur and the police started chasing the vehicle. While fleeing, the driver lost control over the car and it crashed into a roadside tree near Bhode Da Khuh on the TalwaraHajipur road. After the crash, the driver fled while leaving the car on the spot. When the police searched the car, 3,15,000 ml (315 litre) of alcohol was recovered from the vehicle. The police registered a case against an unidentified car driver under the Excise Act in this connection and started further investigation into the matter. The deceased were identified as Narinder Singh, a resident of Fatehgarh Churian, and Harman Singh, a resident of Amritsar. Other car occupants sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. OC TWO ARRESTED ON CHARGE OF THEFT Phagwara: The police have arrested two youths on the charge of stealing valuable goods from Haveli of one Varinder Singh in Mannawali village, near Phagwara, on Saturday night. Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the arrested suspects were identified as Raju, a resident of Hadiabad village, and Dharmendera, a resident of Mannawali village. The suspects confessed that they stole iron cutter, grinder, two drums of milk and a welding set from Haveli, the SP said. OC MAN DUPED OF ~9.50L, 3 BOOKED Hoshiarpur: The Tanda police have named three suspects in an FIR registered on the charge of duping a man. Paramjit Singh, a resident of Model Town, Hoshiarpur, told the police that Baachitter Singh and Pal Singh, both residents of Moha village, and Vikram Singh, a resident of Jallowal village, had allegedly cheated him of Rs 9.50 lakh. OC DRUG AWARENESS DRIVE LAUNCHED Phagwara The police have launched a drugs awareness campaign in the rural and urban localities of Phagwara sub-division. During the drive, Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti and DSP Jaspreet Singh met residents of Pandori village on Sunday. While addressing villagers, the SP advised youths to take up sports. Bhatti asked villagers to form village defence committees and install CCTV cameras at key locations in the village. OC Our Correspondent Garhshankar, September 15 The police have registered a case against former president of the BJP’s Beet Mandal, also former sarpanch of Sihwan village, on the complaint of the Garhshankar BDPO sent to the Hoshiarpur SSP filed on the basis of an investigation report. The police have registered a case against the suspect identified as Sihawan Pardeep Singh under the charges of embezzling panchayat funds by preparing forged bills of stone, gravel and sand purchase on the name of a firm owned by his brother. Garhshankar BDPO Manjinder Kaur had sent the report of investigation, conducted by Executive Engineer, Panchayati Raj, to the Hoshiarpur SSP on August 31, seeking action against the suspect. Sihawan Pardeep Singh had prepared bills in the name of Rana Building Material Supplier, Sihwan, for purchasing stone, sand and gravel for the development works carried out by the panchayat in the village. The said firm was reportedly owned by his brother. The inquiry officer found that the former sarpanch Sihawan Pardeep Singh had prepared bills to embezzle panchayat funds. He also found during inquiry that Rana Building Material Supplier’s shop was not located in Sihwan village and all bills were without GST number. On basis of the complaint, a case was registered against former sarpanch at the Garhshankar police station. Meanwhile, former BJP MP Avinash Rai Khanna condemned registration of a “false” FIR against Garhshankar mandal president Pradeep Rangeela by the police under the pressure of the state government. He said it now seemed that jungle raj had been established in Punjab. Khanna, terming the FIR as a tool of political vendetta, said leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were frustrated and had started bullying BJP workers in order to forcible induct them into their party fold. He said this was a sheer murder of the democracy by AAP leaders. Jalandhar, September 15 There seems to be no let-up in rising incidents of snatching and robbery in the city. Moreover, the videos being posted by the city police on social media highlighting the treatment given to criminals have also failed to act as a deterrent. In yet another such incident, a house help, identified as Karan, who originally hails from Nepal, was robbed of a mere Rs 300 by three men riding an Activa scooter. The incident occurred on Saturday night in Adarsh Nagar, one of the city’s upscale locality. The victim, returning to his employer’s home after an errand, was waylaid by the armed trio near Adarsh Nagar Park. Despite his efforts to run away, the robbers chased him while brandishing sharp weapons and made off with Rs 300, the only money the victim had.
