According to information, the police arrested three accused and recovered 120 gram of narcotic powder from them. The accused have been identified as Gurminder Singh of Kunta, Boota Singh of Sandharan Sodhian and Ajay Kumar of Kattowal. While the police of Garhshankar arrested an accused during a raid in the area and recovered 100 gram of heroin from him. The accused has been identified as Harpreet Ram of Panam. The Mukerian police arrested Kulveer Singhof Lambi Gali and recovered 7 gram heroin from him. OC TRUCK WITH STOLEN TREE LOGS SEIZED Talwara: The police have registered a case against a person of Sukhchainpur village for stealing khair trees from a forest and recovered the wooden logs loaded in a fourwheeler on Sunday. The police had received a secret information that Deepak Kumar of Sukhchainpur, along with some of his associates, had stolen khair trees from a forest and was loading these in a pickup. Based on the information, ASI Naresh Kumar, along with his team, raided the forest and the vehicle was seized along with the logs of the stolen trees. Investigating officer (IO) Jagdev Singh said the accused had been identified as Manwindar alias Manga, a resident of Kassu Pur village. Baljit Kaur, wife of Sarabjit Singh and a resident of the same village, had complained to the police that the suspect had spread trash on the road, causing her husband's motorcycle to slip and fall on the ground, causing serious injuries. The IO said a case was registered against the suspect. OC THIRD ARREST IN ILLEGAL REHAB CASE Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested the third person for his involvement in running an illegal de-addiction centre at Koharr Kalan village of the Shahkot subdivision. Shahkot Station House Officer (SHO) Aman Saini said the accused had been identified as Sarabjit Singh, alias Nikka, a resident of Billi Chao who was presently living at Koharr Kalan village. The SHO said a case under Sections 318(4) (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 127(4) (wrongful confinement for ten or more days), and 223 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the BNS was registered against the suspects. The police have arrested two persons and recovered the victim’s snatched mobile phone from their possession. The incident occurred on August 28 when Sunny, a 24year-old youth working with a cable network company, was returning home late at night. As he approached Maqsudan Chowk, three assailants on a scooter attacked him with a datar, a sharp-edged weapon used in the assault. The attackers had slit his arm to snatch his mobile phone that he was holding tight. The extent of his injuries necessitated amputation, leaving the victim traumatised and the city in outrage. Sunny had got the case reported, prompting police to file an FIR under Sections 309(6), 118(2), 3(5) of the BNS. On being signalled to stop, the driver attempted to flee, abandoning a bag. The police swiftly apprehend- ed both individuals and upon searching the bags, discovered 3 kg of opium packed in separate envelops. President District Bar Association, Hoshiarpur, Advocate Ranjit Kumar said the decision to establish rural courts was neither in the interest of the people, nor practical. This decision would prove to be wrong just like the decision to run mobile courts. Recruitment of judges and judicial staff and the police for speedy disposal of cases and resolution of basic infrastructure problems were essential, otherwise problems would increase with rural courts. He said that the District Bar Association was united with the Mukerian Bar Association on the issue of electricity and also supported the state-level call given by the Mukerian Bar Association. He said a meeting of all Bar associations of Punjab would be held on Wednesday in which a strategy would be fixed for dealing with the issue effectively. Jalandhar, September 23 The total dengue cases in Jalandhar reached 43 so far. Dengue cases have seen a rise in September with 16 reported this month. Jalandhar district had merely 11 dengue cases until August 1. Most cases have been reported in August and September. As many as 32 cases have been reported in the two months. In the past one week, six new cases were reported in Jalandhar. Eight chikungunya cases have also been reported in Jalandhar this year. To keep dengue at bay, 60 larvae breeding teams have also been pushed into service by the Health Department since July. The arrested persons have been identified as Mahesh, alias Mohit, Diviam Babbar, alias Ganja, and Ridham, alias Kuku, all from Sodal of Jalandhar.
