The accused have been identified as Abdul Rahim and Barkat Ali of Tahli village, Asgar Ali and Surmudeen, residents of Chak Kalan village. Mohamad Yunas, a resident of Birr Baloki village, complained to the police that the accused waylaid and attacked him with a sharpedged weapons and seriously injured him on May 7 near Gohir village. oc TWO HELD FOR STEALING CASH Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested two persons on the charge of stealing cash and CCTVs from a village religious place. The accused has been identified as Palwindar Singh and Jaswindar Singh of Punia village. Aman of Reharrwan village complained to the police that the accused barged into Baba Fakar ji Darbar, Punian village on May 10, and stole Rs 10,000 cash and CCTVs. The police also booked Gurpreet Singh of Nagal Ambian village for stealing Rs 10,000 from the house of Suman of the same village. oc TWO DRUG PEDDLERS HELD Nakodar: The Nakodar Sadar police have arrested a 'drug peddler' on the charge of selling heroin and intoxicating tablets. Four gram of heroin and 49 tablets were recovered from the possession of the accused Lovpreet Sigh, alias Labha, of Talwandi Bharowal village. The Lohian Khas police have arrested 'drug peddler' Jaswindar Singh of Fatehpur Bhangwan village with 50 tablets. oc DHABA WORKER'S MOBILE SNATCHED Phagwara: In a broad daylight, two motorcyclists snatched a mobile phone from a dhaba worker in Phagwara. The victim said he was going to deliver food to a customer but when he was crossing the road under flyover, the miscreants struck and snatched his mobile and fled. The police have been informed. OC WOMAN ENDS LIFE BY SUICIDE Nakodar: A married woman has ended life by suicide. The deceased has been identified as Parmindar Kaur of Nangal Ambian village. Jagjit Singh told the police that his wife had strangled herself in his house. The police, acting on a statement from the husband of the deceased, handed over the body to the family after postmortem. OC MAN HELD UNDER NDPS ACT Madhvi, Sakshi PSEB Class XII toppers Aakanksha N Bhardwaj Tribune News Service Jalandhar, May 14 Madhvi Salaria and Sakshi of Senior Secondary School for Meritorious Students, Jalandhar, have topped the district in the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Class XII exams that were declared this afternoon. Madhvi has got the fifth rank in the state and Sakshi stood seventh in Punjab. A total of 25 students from Jalandhar made it to the merit list. As many as 18,926 appeared while 16,780 passed the exams. The passing percentage of the district remained 88.66 per cent. Out of 23 districts, Jalandhar remained on 17th in terms of passing percentage. While Madhvi secured 495 marks out of 500 (99 per cent), Sakshi got 493 (98.6 per cent) in the non-medical stream. Madhvi, daughter of a farmer belongs to Aimma Gujjran village in Pathankot, said how recent sightings of drones and continuous sounds of explosions made her aim to join the defence forces more strong. “Earlier I was flexible in my thoughts. I was thinking if in case I don’t get through the NDA examination, which I have been preparing for, I would opt for some other field. But, the recent incident has invoked a different kind of resilience in me. I want to serve my country by joining the defence forces,” she told The Tribune. PHOTO :MALKIAT SINGH Madhvi Salaria, a student of Meritorious School, Jalandhar, who secured 99% marks; and (right) Sakshi, along with her mother, who got 98.60% marks in PSEB Class XII on Wednesday. 76 rescued in crackdown on illegal rehab centres in Shahkot Ashok Kaura Shahkot, May 14 In a decisive action under the government’s flagship campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, the civil and police administration of Jalandhar district carried out a major joint operation against unauthorised de-addiction centres in the Shahkot area. A total of 76 individuals were rescued from two such illegal facilities. The operation, led by Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal and SSP Harvinder Singh Virk, targeted unauthorised centres run by the Baba Deep Singh Welfare Society in village Dhandwal and the Turning Point Deaddiction Centre in village Bajwa Kalan. From Dhandwal, 47 people were rescued, and from Bajwa Kalan, 29 individuals were freed. FIRs have been registered against the property owners and oper- ators of both centres and investigations are underway. The authorities revealed that patients at these centres were illegally detained, physically abused and in some cases, confined for over seven months. The DC reiterated the administration’s zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse and unauthorised centers, vowing strict and sustained action. Dr Aggarwal emphasized that the administration is equally focused on the rehabilitation and proper care of drug-dependent individuals, alongside law enforcement measures. He also highlighted recent similar actions in Jamsher and Samrai, where 137 individuals were rescued from illegal de-addiction centers—34 from Jamsher and 103 from Samrai. SSP Harvinder Singh Virk warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone running unauthorized cen- ters as such operations jeopardise the lives and violate human rights. Residents are encouraged to report drug-related activity or suspicious centers by calling the District De-addiction Helpline (0181-2911969) or via WhatsApp at 9779-100-200. Officials assured that the identity of informants will be kept confidential. The recent Shahkot operation included the coordinated efforts of SP (Investigation) Sarabjit Rai, DSP Onkar Singh Brar, Tehsildar Harminder Singh Sidhu, SMO Chander Deepak, Drug Inspector Dr. Lajwinder Kumar, Psychiatrist Dr. Abhairaj Singh, Dr. Rajdeep Kaur, and Dr. Taranjit, among others. This campaign continues to intensify across the district as authorities work to eliminate drug abuse and unauthorized treatment centers from the region. Tiranga March in Jalandhar today Jalandhar, May 14 The Rashtriya Nagrik Suraksha Manch will take out a Tiranga March on Thursday May 15 on Jalandhar, dedicated to the Operation Sindoor and soldiers. This is the first Tiranga March being taken out in the state to hail the sucess of the Operation Sindoor. The march comes two days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Adampur Air Force Station on May 13 to meet and honour the soldiers who played a pivotal role in the recently concluded operation. The Adampur Air Force Station, India’s second largest Air Force base in the country, was the cornerstone of India’s decisive response to Pakistan’s air offensive against India. The Prime Minister’s hour-long visit to the station and words of encouragement to the personnel deployed at the base drew applause. TNS Safety saves Our Correspondent Phagwara, May 14 A case of theft was reported in the early hours today at Shiv Mandir on the premises of Shri Hanumangarhi Temple near the bus stand in Phagwara. SHO, Phagwara, Gaurav Dhir promptly arrived at the scene. According to initial reports, an individual entered the temple premises early this morning and stole a copper idol of “Naag Devta” from the sanctum sanctorum. Upon learning about the theft, Hindu leaders, including advocate Ravinder Sharma, Shiv Sena members Inderjit Karwal, Rajesh Palta, Gurdip Saini, and Vipin Sharma reached the temple to review the situation. The CCTV footage is currently being examined by the authorities. Senior police officials, including SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti and DSP Bharat Bhushan also visited the site to assess the situation and reassure the local community. SP Bhatti assured the Hindu leaders that the culprit would be apprehended at the earliest. Hindu leaders have demanded swift police action, expressing deep concern and resentment over the incident. The police are closely monitoring developments and further investigation is underway. The teams are learnt to have started an inquiry into the working of ATP Sukhdev Vashisht and have been interrogating him at the Municipal Corporation office since this evening. The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh, Surjit Singh and Hardeep Singh of Nurpur Chatha village. Paan Kumar of Basti Danshmanda, Jalandhar, complained to the police that the accused stole batteries from the mobile towers of Vodafone, Airtel and Idea. The police also booked three thieves for stealing building materials of Gurdwara Bulandpuri. — OC Jalandhar, May 14 The new pension office was inaugurated by the SSP , Jalandhar, Harvinder Singh Virk today. Sarabjit Rai, SP Investiga, tion, and Parminder Singh Heer, SP Headquarters, were present. Officers and employees who retired from the police department also specially attended the function. The main objective of establishing the new pension office is to listen to the problems of the former employees, provide them official help and streamline the pension related procedures. Tribune news Service SSP Harvinder Singh Virk informed the media that, “Old officers and employees are the heritage of our department. There should always be respect for their service. The new pension cell will be a direct platform for them where they will be able to raise their issues without any difficulty.” He also said if anyone needs any personal or departmental help in the future, they can contact him directly. Retired officer Gurnam Singh was also appointed as the new president of Jalandhar Rural Pension Association. All officers hoped that the association would become even stronger under his leadership.
