The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh, Surjit Singh and Hardeep Singh, all residents of Nurpur Chatha village. Pawan Kumar, a resident of Basti Danshmandan, Jalandhar, has complained to the police that the accused stole batteries from the mobile towers of Vodafone, Airtel and Idea. A case under the BNS was registered against the accused. OC GURDWARA OFFICIALS SACKED Phagwara: The SGPC has dismissed an accountant and cashier of the historic Gurdwara Guru Arjan Dev Ji at Bilga village for embezzling funds and suspended the manager. SGPC superintendent Nishan Singh said accountant Amrit Pal Singh and cashier Jagveer Singh embezzled gurdwara funds and manager Mandeep Singh was in league with the two, who have been suspended. He said Bhupindar Singh, record keeper of Gurdwara Ber Sahib Sultanpur Lodhi, has been appointed manager of the gurdwara. oc YOUTH BOOKED FOR KIDNAPPING Phagwara: The Lohian police have booked a youth on the charge of kidnapping a minor. Nishan Singh, a resident of Fatehpur Bhangwan village, complained to the police that an unidentified man kidnapped his minor daughter on the night of May 13 night. A case under the BNS has been registered against the unidentified accused and further investigation is on. OC PARLEEN BRAR IS PHILLAUR SDM Phagwara: The government has appointed Parveen Kaur Brar as Phillaur sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) in place of Jai Indar Singh (under transfer) who was appointed as the Joint Commissioner of Amritsar on May 10. Thousands of people joined the Tiranga Yatra. The Tiranga Yatra passed through Company Bagh Chowk (Shri Ram Chowk) and the main markets of the city. Sushil Sharma from the manch thanked everyone for participating in the yatra. The stage was conducted by BJP leader Ashok Sarin Hickey. On the occasion, slogans of Bharat Mata Ki Jai were raised and leaders said the whole country is saluting the valour of the Army. They said it was due to the indomitable courage and bravery of the soldiers that India broke the back of Pakistan, which has been seen the world over. Asst Town Planner nabbed for demanding ~30K bribe Tribune News Service Jalandhar, May 15 The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has apprehended Sukhdev Vashisht, Assistant Town Planner (ATP), Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar, for demanding a bribe of Rs 30,000. The accused has been arrested based on several complaints received from stakeholders. Officials said the complainants had alleged that the accused had been deliberately delaying file approvals and extorting money from the applicants. They had reported hat even though 70 per cent of building maps in the area had already been approved by the MC, the ATP Vashisht had refused to clear certain files unless bribes were paid. In a particular case, the ATP had demanded Rs. 30,000 to process the case. The complainants also accused him of using threats, including sealing buildings during inspections to intimidate applicants and even told that he is not afraid of his transfer. It is also learnt that Vashisht was actually a draftsman and had the officiating charge as ATP The VB is learnt to be in . possession of at least 15-16 fake notices of the building branch, the record of which was nowhere found in the MC registers or diaries. There were five notices which bore the same number but were addressed to different notices. The VB officials are also learnt to have made some recoveries of valuables from the house of Vashisht. The VB officials further added that after a preliminary examination of the complaint, the VB Jalandhar range had registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act against the MC official and arrested him. The report about the arrest is being connected with the divesting of security cover of Jalandhar Central MLA Raman Arora as Vashisht earlier had the charge of ATP in the wards of his constituency. Arora, however, refutes any link with the case. “He served in my area a year back and I never interfered in his work”, he said. Religious persons, including Swami Sachchidanand Jalandhar, May 15 The result of the PSEB for Class XII was declared on May 14 in which four girls of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Jandiala, Jalandhar, have topped the board results in science, commerce, arts and vocational streams. Amanpreet Kaur, a student of the school, secured 8th rank in the state and stood third in Jalandhar by scoring 492/500 (98.40%) marks. Daughter of a carpenter, Amanpreet has started pursuing BSc Non-Medical from DAV College. She belongs to Chanian village, Nakodar. “She aspires to join civil services. She has always been academically inclined,” Harbhajan Singh, father of Amanpreet told The Tribune. Sanjana, another student from the school, secured the 9th rank by scoring 491/500 (98.2%) marks, Amanpreet secured 13th rank by scoring 487/500 (97.4%) marks and Gaganpreet Kaur secured 14th rank by scoring 486/500 (97.2%). The protest began in response to a cross-FIR that members of the legal community claim was falsely lodged against advocates belonging to the District Bar Association, Ludhiana. It happened after a clash between lawyer and a court employee. Terming the action unjust, the Bar Association, Phagwara, has condemned the incident and pledged support to the affected lawyers. In a unanimous resolution, the Phagwara Bar has resolved to observe a complete “no work” day on May 15, aligning itself with the broader statewide protest. PHOTO: SARABJIT SINGH Safai karamchari unions go on strike Tribune News Service Jalandhar, May 15 Safai karamchari unions held a protest against the Municipal Corporation and stopped lifting of garbage from several areas and raised slogans against the Commissioner. With this, the waste lifting and cleanliness work of the city got affected. Recently, to assess the onground situation of cleanliness, Local Bodies Minister Ravjot Singh along with a team of officials had visited various areas of the city, including the bus stand, railway station, Garha Road, PIMS Road and Damoria Bridge, issuing instructions on the spot. The minister had directed Municipal Corporation officials to ensure proper daily lifting of garbage. He emphasised that there should be no delay in this task. He added that in areas where garbage accumulated in large quantities, lifting must be ensured both in the Safai karamcharis during a protest in Jalandhar on Thursday. Garewal also joined the strike and expressed concern over the working style of Municipal Corporation higher officials and deliberately ignoring the demands of the employees. “The complaint will be made to the local minister Dr Ravjot Singh and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The most important demands of the unions are that safai karamcharis, sewermen, drivers etc, working on festival holidays, should be given some amount of money and JCB operators working in different departments in the Municipal Corporation workshop for 15-20 years should be made permanent. The vacant posts of safai karamchari, sewerman, gardener, beldar, chowkidar, etc. in the Municipal Corporation should be filled as soon as possible.
