OC VILLAGER HELD FOR CHEATING Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested a villager on charges of cheating, breach of trust, and criminal intimidation. The accused has been identified as Sandeep Arora of Aadramaan village. Harman Preet Singh of the same village had complained to the police that the accused purchased a combine harvester in the name of his father did not pay money and kept the harvester in his possession and thus cheated and threatened him. The accused have been identified as Mandeep Singh of Billi Waraich village, Harpreet Singh and Balwindar Singh of Dhandowal village. The accused and their accomplices ran illegal de-addiction centres at Dhandowal and Bajwa Kalan village. Will make every effort to end drug menace: Kejriwal Our Correspondent Phagwara, May 16 Former Delhi Chief Minister and national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Arvind Kejriwal, addressing a huge gathering in village Lakhanpal, 12 km from Phagwara on Friday, said the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will make every effort to save our coming generations from falling prey to the menace of drugs. He said he is elated to learn that the backbone of the drug has been broken for which the police need a pat. He said the manner in which this antidrug campaign has been launched finds no parallel in the history. Kejriwal said the properties constructed from the drug money have been razed to dust by the bulldozers. He said the previous regimes not only patronised drug dealers but they themselves carried out the business in their government vehicles. However, he said the government is acting strictly against the drug menace and it will not allow its youth to fall prey to this menace. Kejriwal said now Nasha Mukti Yatra has been embarked in the state and every village will be covered under the ambitious programme. The national convener of AAP said the war against drugs will be taken to ground level and interactions will be held in all around 13,000 villages of the state. He said to channelise the unbounded energy of the youth in a positive manner, the state government will construct stadiums in every village of the state, adding that 3,000 gyms will be constructed in big villages to promote sports in a big way. Jalandhar, May 16 The Punjab School Education Board declared Class X results today. As many as 13 girls from Jalandhar made it to the merit list. Priti Kumari from Cantt Board Girls Senior Secondary School got 636 out of 650 (97.85 per cent). She has got the 14th rank in the state and has stood first in the district. Priti wants to become a doctor. “Social media wastes time. I was just focused on my studies and this has paid off,” she told The Tribune. She further added that she will take admission in medical stream with mathematics as an extra subject. “Math is my favourite subject,” she said. Priti said she always focused on understanding the concepts rather than cramming. “I really enjoy applying mehendi on other’s hands. I love listening to music, it is my escape. I also love reading books of general knowledge,” she further added. Principal of the school Punam Pathak said she was proud of Priti’s hard work. “She has always been a welldisciplined and intelligent girl,” the Principal said. Alkmar of Sri Mahavir Jain School, Navneet Kaur of Pushpa Mehta Memorial Arya Model School and Neelu Kumari from Government Senior Secondary School, Maqsudan, have shared the second position in the district and are 16th in the state. They got 634 out of 650 (97.54 %) marks. Alkmar said that his aim is to become a doctor and this is the first step towards that. “I have seen students studying a day or two days before exams. I never do that, I start studying when session starts and that keeps the pressure off me and I never feel stressed. I always revisit the topic that is taught in the school,” he shared his routine. Shopkeeper’s son Alkmar is also not on social media as he considers it one of the biggest distraction and wants to stay away from it. Avinash Chander, the Principal of the school expressed his happiness. “Alkmar is good in extra-curricular activities as well. He has won several prizes in the debate and declamation competitions. He is an all-rounder,” he told The Tribune. Navneet Kaur from Kartarpur, who has also got second position, shared that she wanted to become a chartered accountant. She used to study till 1.30 at night and she would often tell her mother to ask her questions. “I have a huge interest in arts and crafts and painting as well,” she said. The accused has been identified as Satnam Singh of Chechla village, Una. The accused has given his truck to the accused involved in the poppy husk smuggling. For this achievement, Civil Surgeon, Hoshiarpur, Dr Pawan Kumar Shagotra was honoured at a state-level meeting. oc Jalandhar, May 16 As much as 2,600 litre of illicit liquor was seized by the Jalandhar police during an operation against five raw liquor establishments being run at Shahkot. As many as nine cases were registered against those making illicit liquor. One man has been arrested. Under the directions of SSP Harvinder Singh Virk, the police conducted a special operation, CASO, under the ‘ War on Drugs’ campaign against illicit liquor smugglers in Shahkot. The operation was led by SP Investigation, Sarabjit , Rai, and DSP Onkar Singh Brar. The accused in these cases are still unknown. In the four cases registered in Mehatpur, 4,91,250 ml of illicit liquor and Rs 23,000 in cash were recovered. One accused has been arrested and the search for others is on. As many as 13 drums, wood materials, tarpaulin and other materials being used for the preparation of illicit liquor were recovered by the Jalandhar police. The police have appealed to the public to report any information related to drug trafficking or illegal business to the nearest police station or the 112 helpline without any fear. This unprecedented decision includes the immediate termination of student and faculty exchange programmes, joint research projects, dual degree initiatives Man arrested by Gujarat Police 51 held with drugs, illegal weapons seized for cyber fraud, 4 phones seized Tribune News Service Tribune News Service Jalandhar, May 16 A Bihar native was arrested on Friday morning from Bhargo Camp by the Gujarat Police on the charge of cyber fraud. The accused was identified as Mohammad Murtja Ali and he was residing in Jalandhar on a rental accommodation. The police recovered four mobile phones and three SIM connections from his possession. The accused used a mobile application to commit cyber frauds with people. There have been reports that he had links with the Pakistan-based ISI but this could not be ascertained. His phone is being checked for any suspected videos and photographs taken by him during Operation Sindoor, said Jalandhar police officials who had joined the Gujarat Police during the raid. There have been reported that the accused had bought a 25-marla plot which he was getting constructed for an estimated amount of Rs 1.5 crore. The police teams have also checked his bank account and had found that his monthly transactions were close to Rs 40 lakh. c m y b Jalandhar, May 16 The Commissionerate Police has registered 41 FIRs, apprehended 50 individuals involved in drug trafficking and one proclaimed offender, who was wanted in an NDPS case, in the past one week in the city. Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur said the police conducted multiple coordinated operations across various police stations leading to the recovery of a significant cache of drugs and illegal weapons. The seized items include 638 g of heroin, 1.05 kg of ganja (cannabis), 397 intoxicating tablets, silver foil rolls and lighters, two pistols (.32 bore) along with 10 rounds, two two-wheelers suspected to be used for drug trafficking. She also said efforts were on to rehabilitate drug addicts. As part of this initiative, 25 individuals battling addiction were recently admitted to de-addiction centres at the Civil Hospital and PIMS Hospital. Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur has also urged the public to join hands in this battle by staying vigilant and reporting any suspicious drug-related activity.
