OC ONE BOOKED FOR ABDUCTING MINOR Phagwara: Following a complaint lodged by a migrant from Bihar identified as Dalip Sada, presently residing at Basant Nagar, the police have registered a case under Sections 363 and 366 of the IPC against a youth on the charge of abducting minor daughter of the complainant. The girl is missing since March 3. The complainant had doubts that the suspect, identified as Suraj Sada, a resident of Basant Nagar, had abducted his minor daughter. OC MUKTSAR RESIDENT DIES IN ACCIDENT Phagwara: A motorcyclist was killed on the spot when the bike he was driving collided with a tractor-trailer on the PhagwaraChandigarh bypass on Tuesday evening. The deceased was identified as Vikram Singh, a resident of Muktsar. The police have registered a case and sent the body to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The suspect, was identified as Gurmit Kumar, a resident of Darapur village near Phillaur. No arrest has been made so far. However, the police are investigating the matter. Two small kids were bitten by stray dogs at the two villages on Tuesday. The children, including one boy and a girl, were seriously injured by stray dogs. Seven-year-old girl identified as Mira, a daughter of migrant labourers, was attacked by stray dogs in fields at Ugrupur village on Tuesday afternoon. She received multiple injuries in the attack. In the second incident, a three-year-old boy was attacked by dogs at A stray dog-bite victim at Sub-Divisional Hospital in Sultanpur Lodhi. Haidrabad Bet village. The girl was in Int’l drug smuggling racket: Three more suspects land in police net Tribune News Service Jalandhar, March 6 The Commissionerate Police have apprehended three more persons, including one from Delhi, in connection with the drug smuggling racket spanning four countries through courier services. The individuals in custody, were identified as Parmod Singh, a Delhi resident, who was previously employed as a contractual worker at the Delhi Customs Office, Balihar Singh, a resident of Tanda, and Sikander, a resident of Basti Sheikh in Jalandhar. As per information, Parmod played a pivotal role in facilitating the syndicate by orchestrating the clearance of parcels during scanning procedures. He always had advance knowledge of international courier parcels containing narcotics and colluded with clearance staff. He was paid a fee ranging from Rs 10,000 to 20,000 per parcel. ❝The syndicate has been active for three years. It has already dispatched nearly two quintals of opium abroad during this period. ❞ Swapan Sharma, COMMISSIONER OF POLICE Balihar and Sikander, who worked with a courier company, were tasked with procuring opium from Jharkhand, arrange its packaging, and overseeing its delivery to international destinations. Following their court appearance today, Parmod, Balihar and Sikander were remanded into police custody for further interrogation. The police are also probing the involvement of other Delhi custom officials, who may have facilitated the smuggling operation, and examining Parmod’s call records among other evidence. The recent development follows the arrest of three other suspects, identified as Aman, Sunny and Shejal, last week, along with the seizure of 5 kg of opium from their possession. Swapan Sharma, Commissioner of Police (CP), had previously stated that the syndicate had been active for three years, having already dispatched nearly two quintals of opium abroad during this period. The mastermind behind the cartel, Manish, alias Mani Thakur, is believed to be in the UK. Investigations indicate that opium was sourced from Jharkhand, routed through courier operators in Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar, before being dispatched overseas. Aditya Warrier, DCP (Investigation), confirmed the arrests of the three suspects. Investigating officer (IO) Major Singh said the suspects, were identified as Navjiwan Singh, alias Nanak, a resident of Mudh village, Sunni, and Laddi. Som Natha had complained to the police that the suspects were driving their SUV at high speed and negligently on February 27. He said their vehicle hit his auto-rickshaw near Mudh village gate. He said the suspects seriously assaulted him leaving him seriously injured. The IO said a case under Sections 279, 337, 338, 427, 323, 325 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code had been registered against the three suspects. Thieves steal computer, LCD from govt school after breaking office wall Jalandhar, March 6 Thieves struck at a government primary school on Tuesday and decamped with a computer and other gadget. Employees at school discovered the theft on Wednesday morning. School head teacher Reena has submitted a written complaint at the Kartarpur police station in this connection. The theft took place at the Government Primary School, Fazilpur, between 6 pm and 6.30 pm on Tuesday evening. The stolen items include a computer and an LCD. As per reports, the LCD was bought by the head teacher from her own pocket and kept at the school office. In the complaint, the head teacher stated that everyone left the school as per routine after locking the premises on Tuesday. A Vigilance Bureau (VB) spokesperson said an FIR No. 18, dated September 22, 2022, under Sections 7, 8, 12 and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and under Sections 409, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the IPC had already been registered at the VB police station, Jalandhar range, against seven accused along with RK Singla, former Food and Civil Supplies Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and contractors. He further said the accused in connivance with the former minister and department officers/officials had awarded tenders to contractors at higher costs after tak- ing bribes. During investigation, it had also came to light that contractors had submitted forged fake documents pertaining to registration numbers of vehicles like tractors, harvesters, combines and two wheelers for transportation of food grains from mandis to godowns, he said. The spokesperson said among the seven accused in the case, chargesheet (Challan) of contractor Tellu Ram, Bharat Bhushan Ashu and his PA Meenu Malhotra had been presented in the competent court. Accused Rakesh Bhaskar, District Food and Civil Supplies Controller, had passed away during trial. During the trial, said accused RK Singla failed to appear before the court and was declared a proclaimed offender. Another supplementary chargesheet against Singla along with accused contractors Ajay Pal and Yash Pal would be presented in the court shortly. — TNS Jalandhar, March 6 Deputy Commissioner Vishesh (DC) Sarangal on Wednesday finalised the draft report of the sub-committee on the sewerage issue in Nurmahal. He directed officials concerned to submit detailed report before the Estimates Committee of Punjab Vidhan Sabha. Chairing a review meeting here at the district administrative complex, the DC said the Estimates Committee had constituted a sub-committee to conduct a joint survey on the issue of sewerage system in Nurmahal and working of the sewage treatment plant (STP). Following the directions, the sub-committee conducted a joint survey and prepared a report. The committee suggested various steps needed to resolve the sewerage problem, besides estimates to be incurred on the task. Chauhan cycles 70 to 100 km every day to spread the message of plastic-free clean India, blood donation, environmental protection and planting trees. Addressing a press conference here, Chauhan said he started his cycling journey in 2014 with an ordinary bicycle. Chauhan said he started recording his cycling activities on the Strava app in 2016. He said for some reason, a doctor refrained him from walking due to a knee problem. During that period, he also suffered from depression, but with his determination, he Balraj Singh Chauhan at a press conference in Hoshiarpur. started cycling again and overcame both the problems. Chauhan said cycling had now become a passion. He said it was through cycling that he created his own identity in the country and abroad. So, money was spent on cycling by him on his own.
