Investigating officer (IO) and Talwandi Sanghera police post in charge Buta Ram said the suspect had been identified as Sukhpal Singh, a resident of Gehlarr village. Simarnjit Singh, a resident of Parjian Kalan village, told the police that the suspect stole copper wire from his motor and adjoining motors. The IO said 6-kg copper wire was recovered from his possession. A case under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC has been registered. Phagwara: Two medical shops were found reportedly burgled near the Civil Hospital, Phagwara, in the wee hours of Friday. Rajesh Kumar, owner of Bharat Medical Hall, told the police that a passerby saw the broken shutters of his shop and informed him around 4.30 am. When he came to his shop, he saw the broken shutters and his shop ransacked. The burglars took away cash worth around ~18,000 and escaped after breaking the CCTVs in the shop. Similarly, another medical shop, Bala Ji Medical Store, near the Civil Hospital was also found burgled. The owner of the shop said cash was found missing and CCTVs broken. The police have registered a case. OC Tribune News Service DRUG ADDICT FOUND DEAD 2 in police net under NDPS Act Phagwara: A youth addicted to drugs was found dead near an Aam Aadmi Clinic in the posh locality of Hargobind Nagar in Phagwara on Friday evening. The deceased, identified as Kunal, a resident of Thapar Colony, was a fruit seller and was missing since Thursday. Mithilesh, father of the deceased, said he searched for him, but to no avail. He later informed the police on Friday. The deceased was reportedly taking drugs and was being treated at the Drug De-Addiction Centre. Emergency Medical Officer Dr Kirandeep Kaur said the exact cause of death would be confirmed after post-mortem examination. On suspicion, the police intercepted the car. Jalandhar, March 8 The Nawanshahr police have arrested two persons with 6.100 kg of opium. The suspects have been identified as Lavdeep Singh (24) from Balachaur and Akashdeep Singh (28) from Sajawalpur village. While Lavdeep works as a labourer, Akashdeep is into farming. Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Sahem village, told the police that while he was returning home from his poultry farm on his motorcycle on the evening of January 1, the suspect waylaid him near Balbir Sangh’s motor and snatched ~2000 from him. He also fired at him from a pistol, but he escaped unhurt. The suspect later attacked him with sharp weapons with intention to kill. He suffered serious injuries in the attack. A case under Sections 307, 379-B and 34 of the IPC, and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the suspect and his two unidentified accomplices. PHOTO: SARABJIT SINGH Two detained at Amritsar airport for travelling on forged passports Suspects had gone to Dubai but were deported Tribune News Service Amritsar, March 8 Two passengers, including a woman, have been detained at Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport for travelling on forged travel documents. Both of them were deported by the immigration authorities at Dubai after refusing them entry. The youth has been identified as Manjinder Singh, a resident of Variyam Nangal and a woman from Ajnala. Both had gone to Dubai on an Indian passport. When the immigration authorities in Dubai examined their documents, they found something suspicious. The immigration officials did not allow them to enter Dubai and sent them back to India on Qatar Airways. The accused reportedly tampered with passports by editing names on someone else’s passport. With these tampered passports, they managed to travel to Dubai, but the immi- gration officials found the passports not in order. Both the accused have been detained by the authorities after being deported to India. The documents of the duo are also being examined. After interrogation by the Indian immigration officials, both were handed over to Amritsar police. The police officials stated that investigation was underway and they would register a case under the Passports Act against them and take action accordingly. 5-kg heroin confiscated near India-Pak border, probe on PK Jaiswar Tribune News Service Amritsar, March 8 The Amritsar rural police have confiscated 5 kg of heroin from Muhawa village located near India-Pakistan border in Attari sub-division here. The contraband was apparently dropped through drone as the police team conducting a search found it wrapped in yellow adhesive tape and tied with white colour rope. Senior Superintendent of Police Satinder Singh confirmed the seizure and said that further investigations were in progress to identify the smugglers who had come to retrieve the narcotics but fled from the scene.
