NRI Harkirat Singh, a Canadian citizen and a native of Bulanda village, told the police that an unidentified person opened fire in front of the gate of his house on the night of June 18. Investigating officer Maninder Singh said a case under Section 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC has been registered. OC YOUTH BOOKED FOR KIDNAPPING Phagwara: The Shahkot police have booked a youth on the charge of kidnapping a minor. Investigating officer (IO) Kewal Singh said the suspect had been identified as Salim, alias Simur, a resident of Malsian village. Karanjit Kaur, a resident of the same village, told the police that the suspect kidnapped her minor daughter on June 22 by inducing her on the pretext of marriage. Investigating officer (IO) Maninder Singh said the suspect had been identified as Paramjeet Kaur, alias Prema, a resident of Dharme Dian Chhana village. The IO said a case under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 458 (housebreak by night after preparation for hurt, assault), 323, 324 (voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons), 427 (mischief) and 148 and 149 (rioting) of the IPC was registered against the suspect and eight others, including two women, on October 14, 2023. OC PO LANDS IN POLICE NET Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a proclaimed offender (PO) after a gap of six years. Investigating officer (IO) Gurnam Singh said the accused had been identified as Sikandar Singh, alias Shubham, a resident of Parjian Kalan village near here. The IO said the accused was wanted in a case of kidnapping and raping a minor registered in 2016 and was declared a PO in 2018. The police also recovered 400 grams of heroin from his possession. The suspect has been identified as Jagseer Singh, alias Jagga, a resident of Moga. Divulging details, Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said acting on a tipoff, the police intensified patrolling near Boota Mandi, Nakodar Road. During the checking, the police noticed a person coming from Wadala Chowk. On suspicion, the police stopped him for checking. The Police Commissioner said during investigation, it came to fore that Jagga came in contact with a co-accused, Boota Singh, and was involved in the drug trade for the past one year. He said on Boota’s instructions, Jassa was engaged in smuggling and delivery of heroin. Upon reaching Jalandhar, he used to take instructions from Boota Singh regarding the delivery of the parcel. He said no criminal background of Jassa had been traced so far, while one case is pending against Boota Singh. He said further investigations were on in the case and efforts were on to nab Boota Singh and others involved in the smuggling. Jalandhar, June 26 The Jalandhar Police Commissionerate today observed International Day against Drug Abuse and Trafficking by disposing of a huge quantity of drugs confiscated from smugglers during a period of time. Divulging details, Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said in war against drugs, the police recovered a huge quantity of drugs by registering cases against drug peddlers. He said under Section 52 A of the NDPS Act, case property was destroyed by the drug disposal committee. He said the drug property was destroyed at Beerh village, Nakodar, Jalandhar. It included 933 grams of heroin confiscated in 11 cases. Fearing further exposure, the victim transferred another ~17,500 to the suspects. Despite accepting their demands, the blackmailing continued, prompting him to seek police help. High alert in Hoshiarpur, cops hold special checking ARMED SUSPECTS Our Correspondent Hoshiarpur, June 26 After armed suspects were spotted in Pathankot, the police in Hoshiarpur was on high alert today. Special nakas were laid at all entry points to the district from Pathankot, Gurdaspur and Himachal Pradesh. The district police was keeping a close watch on entry routes to the district and intensive checking was being done. The incoming vehicles were thoroughly checked and the record of the drivers kept. District police chief (SSP) Surendra Lamba said strict vigilance was being maintained in the district and special checking was being carried out on all incoming routes from Gurdaspur and Pathankot side.
