The accused had been identified as Parmindar Singh, alias Pinka, a resident of Mao Sahib village. The police were on a patrolling duty and reached Mao Sahib village and noticed a man standing in front of Harsh Kariana Store, selling kites and string. The police arrested him and seized 12 spools of banned string. A case under section 223 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the BNS and released the accused on bail as the crime is bailable. OC MAN HELD FOR STEALING BIKE Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested a person and booked another on the charge of stealing garlic bags and a motorcycle. The accused has been identified as Sandeep Singh, alias Soni, a resident of Raipur Arian village. Surjit Singh of Raipur Gujran village complained to the police that the accused barged into his house on November 7, 2024, and stole his motorcycle and two garlic bags lying nearby. A case had been registered against the accused and his accomplice Buta Singh. OC COMPUTERS, PARTS STOLEN Phagwara: The police have arrested a miscreant on the charge of stealing computers and parts from a village society. The accused had been identified as Bakhshish Singh of Singhpur village. Jugraj Singh complained to the police that the accused stole two computers, two LCDs, one UPC keyboard and a mouse from village society on January 9 night. A case had been registered. OC 29 BOOKED FOR ASSAULT, THEFT Phagwara: The Nakodar police have booked 29 persons on the charges of assault, criminal intimidation, house trespass and theft. The identified accused were residents of Uggi village. There were 20 unidentified accomplices in the case. Kuldeep Sabharwal of Rahimpur village complained to the police that the accused ransacked his welding shop with a crane on January 12, assaulted him, used abusive language against him, stole Rs 70,000, CCTV cameras and DVR from his shop. OC YOUTH HELD FOR KIDNAPPING Nakodar: The Mehatpur police have arrested a youth on the charge of kidnapping a minor girl. The accused had been identified as Rajiv Kumar, alias Kulu, a resident of Sangowal village. Raju of the same village had complained to the police that the accused kidnapped his minor daughter on November 21 on the pretext of marriage. It was Mayor Vaneet Dhir’s first introductory meeting with MC officials. Lakhotra, talking to The Tribune, alleged the labour that was involved in sewer cleaning was shifted to another ward while the labourers were already involved in the process of cleaning. “I think they have done this because I have left the party again and is now independent councillor,” he said. Lakhotra said he had talked to the XEN who assured him that the labour would return to his ward by tomorrow morning. “I’ll see if they return or not,” he said. Lakhotra had quit the Congress to join the Aam Aadmi Party ahead of the Jalandhar West bypoll for better prospects but was upset as his name appeared on the AAP first list from Ward no. 46 but his name was deleted in the subsequent list that came five hours later. The ticket was given to Rajneesh Bhagat instead. So, he decided to fight the elections as an independent and won by a huge margin. After he won the MC elections, he again joined AAP , but after he was not appointed as the Deputy Mayor, he quit again. “I was told that I would be made deputy mayor, but it didn’t happen and quit the party again,” he said. Mobile, knives seized from jail Our Correspondent PHAGWARA, January 14 SSP Kapurthala, Gaurav Too, ra, conducted a surprise inspection of Modern Jail, Kapurthala, early this morning. The operation was carried out with a large team comprising two SPs , four DSPs, eight SHOs, three unit in-charges, 150 police personnel and officials from the prison department. During the inspection, several prohibited items were discovered inside the jail premises, including one mobile phone, one sharpened iron strip fashioned as a dagger, four knives, three small metal spikes, one iron pipe approximately 2.5-ft long and one wooden stick of similar length. Legal action is being initiated against those responsible for the possession of these items, said the SSP . The SSP stated that such surprise checks would continue to be conducted regularly to ensure law and order was maintained within the jail premises. “These inspections are crucial to preserving peace and security inside the prison,” he said. March against sellers of Chinese string Jalandhar, January 14 A day after 45-year-old Harpreet Singh from Adampur lost his life due to Chinese kite string, his body was cremated today. His family members, including his wife Satinder Kaur, remained inconsolable. She demanded help for her children. Meanwhile, local NGOs and the Adampur Press Club has decided to hold a candlelight march on Wednesday evening. They will demand action against those selling and buying chinese strings. Hatinder Mehta, one of the members of the Adampur Press Club said such incidents should not happen again. Last year, a 13-year-old boy from Adampur had also lost his life when he had injuries on his throat by the deadly dor. A resident of Jalandhar’s Adampur Harpreet was the only breadwinner for his family of four. “Our life has been ruined, I want strict action against those who still sell the banned string,” said Satinder Kaur, pointing to their two children. “My husband couldn’t take even a day off. Even when he was with us enjoying a Lohri function, he wanted to go to work so that he could earn for us,” added inconsolable Satinder Kaur. — TNS Jalandhar, January 14 The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police led by the Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma has arrested a ‘drug smuggler’ and recovered 45 kg poppy husk from him. The Commissioner said the police nabbed a driver identified as Parkash Singh, alias Pasha, of Ambedkar Nagar, Gidderbaha, with 45 kg of poppy husk. The arrest has been made as a sequel to the case in which a police team had arrested two accused, Manjit Singh, alias Mani of Umrewal village in Mehatpur and Jugraj Singh, alias Joga, of Daulewal village in Moga. The police had also recovered 1.025 gm heroin and 5.058 gm of opium from them. It had come to light that the kingpin of a gang involved in the drug trade was Inderjit Singh, alias Labu, of Daulewal village. The police today arrested kingpin Inderjit’s driver. The Commissioner of Police said the arrested accused had also been booked under FIR on August 14 last year under Sections 21,18, 29-61-85 of the NDPS Act. He said further investigation into the case was going on and details would be shared later. According to information, Jasvir Ram, a resident of village Mehna, told the police of Chabbewal that his father Kashmir Chand was coming from Hoshiarpur to his village on a bike. When he reached near village Jattpur, a passing truck hit him. His father died. The police have registered a case against the accused driver Bhagat Singh, a resident of Chak Kataru and arrested him. In another case, Rajinder Singh, a resident of village Shankar of district Ludhiana, has lodged a complaint with the Garhshankar police. He told the police that his nephew Dharminder Singh, a resident of Lehra, district, Ludhiana, was coming towards Garhshankar, driving a truck. He was going towards his truck after relieving himself near Garhshankar, when a car hit him. He was seriously injured in the accident. He was admitted to the hospital where he died. The accused driver fled with the car. The police have registered a case against unidentified driver. In another case, resident of village Manguwal Jeevan Kumar was going to Banga from Garhshankar with cement in his truck. When he reached near a resort, the truck suddenly went out of control and hit a tree on the roadside due to which Jeevan Kumar died. The Garhshankar police was investigating the case.
