The police seized one JCB machine and two tipper trucks from the spot. The arrested accused were identified as Somnath, a resident Kakkon village, and Sukhwinder Kumar, a resident Pathiyal village. The police have initiated probe into the matter after registering a case in this connection. OC TWO HELD WITH LIQUOR, DRUG Hoshiarpur: The district police have arrested two accused after recovering drugs from them. According to the information, officials of the Haryana police station arrested Sunny, a resident Ward No. 7 and recovered 25 bottles of liquor from him. In second incident, the Mukerian police arrested Phillips, a resident Mansoorpur, during patrolling in the area and recovered 65 grams of intoxicating powder from his possession. The police recovered stolen property along with a vehicle used for committing crimes from the possession of the accused. In the second incident the Mahilpur police, during a raid in the area, arrested Davinder Singh, a resident of Binjo, and Vicky, a resident of Bahbalpur, and recovered 140 grams of narcotic powder from their possession. According to information, Balwinder Kaur, wife of Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Kahnuwan, told the police that her daughter Simran Kaur got married to Lovepreet Singh, son of Baljit Singh, a resident of Guru Nanak Nagar, Dasuya, on November 5, 2023. She said after marriage, Simran Kaur’s husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law Sukhwinder Kaur, brother-in-law Baljit Singh and their relative Balveer Singh, a resident Naya Sala, started harassing their daughter. Panchayats were also held several times to solve the issue, she said. After this, the accused threw their daughter out of the house on February 5, 2024, the complainant said, while adding that this left her husband much disturbed. According to the victim’s wife, her husband ended his life by jumping into the Beas river on February 6. The police started an investigation into the matter after registering a case against five accused from Simran Kaur’s in-laws. Our Correspondent Garhshankar, February 9 Two cars collided at Adda Posi on bank of the Bist-Doab canal on the GarhshankarAdampur road today. After collision, one car fell into the canal. Both the cars were badly damaged in the accident. Occupants of both the vehicles were saved on time. According to information, veterinary officer Dr Rajendra Kumar, a resident of Garhshankar, was going towards Mehtiana in his Innova car. When he reached intersection of Adda Posi around 2 pm, a speeding Alto car came on the main from Posi village side and both the vehicles collided. In the collision, the Alto car overturned on side of the road, while Innova fell into the canal. As there was no water in the canal Innova occupant managed to come out of the vehicle safely. Starting from a six-year-old to the elderly, people came out in large numbers to take part in the marathon that was held for the first time at Dabulian in Kapurthala. The marathon started early in the morning with the “Tandrust Dabulia” mission. Those who completed 14 kilometres, ran from the stadium in Dabulia village to the Kapurthala octroi post. They were given Rs 1,100 award. To encourage those who took part, lucky draws were also held in which pairs of shoes were given to those who won. Arjuna awardee Sajjan Singh Cheema, under whose guidance the marathon was held, said he had not imagined such a good response. “I was thrilled to see a six-year-old completing in the 14 km race. He was unstoppable. This has given a hope that drugs will disappear if youngsters adopt such activities in their lives,” a proud Cheema said. The motive of the marathon was to create a healthy village and ultimately a healthy Punjab. Villagers were also seen holding placards like “Sada Supna Sehatmand Dabulian”, “Sada Khwab Nasha Rahit Dabulian” delivering a message to shun drugs. Dabulian has made great contribution in sports as five from the village are sportspersons of national and international fame. All sportspersons from the village, who have excelled in various events and those who are at the learning stage, also took a lead as they guided others to be a part of this marathon. Cheema started this initiative from the village and he slowly wishes to expand it across Punjab. Earlier, he had shared, “After village Dabulian, we will take it to other villages as well. There are 23 blocks in Sultanpur Lodhi and one village will be selected in each block for holding marathon.” Jalandhar, February 9 The Jalandhar police have arrested a minor boy for allegedly manufacturing and selling illegal country-made pistols, claiming that he confessed to have learned how to make these desi weapons through social media. The boy was arrested after the police received a tip-off about his activities during routine patrolling. Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Sharma said a police team apprehended the accused from Gha Mandi ground, where he appeared to be waiting for customers to sell illegal firearms. The accused was identified as Harjinder Singh, alias Giyani, a resident of Kott Mohalla, Jalandhar, who studied till Class X. He was reportedly involved in the illegal trade for the last 11 months, he said. "However, no previous criminal record has been found in Illegal country-made pistols seized by the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police. The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
