The police stated here on Tuesday that the arrested person has been identified as Lovepreet Singh, Lov of Kals village, with 100 gm of heroin, a Glock and ~78,850 as drug money. The Station House Officer (SHO) said the other members of the gang have been named as Akashdeep Singh, Jatinder Singh, Gurminder Singh, Sajan, Harveer Singh Veeru and Daler Singh. The accused, Daler Singh, is locked in jail and was running a trade of drugs from behind bars. The other gang members have been booked under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act. Amritsar, April 1 The city police have busted an organised gang involved in blackmailing wealthy individuals by establishing contact through women, recording false accusations of sexual harassment and using media exposure threats to extort large sums of money. Police have arrested Varun Kapoor, a resident of Diamond Woollen Mill Street, Chheharta, Amritsar, on March 30 and Anil Singh alias Amarinder Singh, a resident of Street No. 6-A, Jujhar Singh Avenue, Ajnala Road, Amritsar, on March 31. Inspector Harpakash Singh, SHO of Maqboolpura police station, along with his team, successfully traced and arrested the accused. A case was registered based on a complaint from Jujhar Singh, a resident of Amritsar. Subsequently, the gang contacted these individuals, threatening to release the videos to the media, thereby tarnishing their reputation and future. Under fear, the victims were forced to pay large sums of money to avoid public disgrace. The masterminds, Varun Kapoor and Anil Singh, have been arrested, while a search operation is underway to locate the four women involved in crime.” A case has been registered under sections 308(2), 62, 351(2)(3), 61(2) and 111 of the BNS at Maqboolpura police station in Amritsar. Amritsar, April 1 In a crackdown on drug traffickers, the district administration carried out an operation in Makboolpura area and demolished an illegal construction erected by notorious drug trafficker Gurmeet Singh here on Tuesday. The accused has three cases registered against him under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act at different police stations. Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said Gurmeet Singh had been actively involved in drug trafficking and had multiple cases registered against him. He said under the ‘War Against Drugs’ drive launched by the Punjab Government, a three-pronged approach focusing on prevention, enforcement and rehabilitation is being implemented. The police also seized 36.36 kg of heroin, 2.179 kg of opium, ~10.50 lakh in drug money, and 18 vehicles, including five four-wheelers and 13 two-wheelers. Appealing to the public, the Police Commissioner urged cit- izens to support the fight against drugs by reporting traffickers. He said informants’ identities would be kept confidential and strict action would be taken against those involved in drug-related crimes. The search culminated at about 8.30 am leading to the recovery of one packet of suspected heroin (gross weight 492 grams) along with some medicines wrapped in transparent tape with three illumination strips and a steel ring attached to the packet. This recovery took place near a cattle shed adjacent to Dhariwal village.
