No complaint has been lodged with the police yet. TNS YOUTH STABBED, HOSPITALISED Chandigarh: A youth was allegedly stabbed near a school in Dadu Majra Colony on Wednesday night. The victim, Abhishek of the colony, was rushed to the GMSH in Sector 16 from where he was referred to the PGI. On his complaint, a case was registered against the suspect, Vishal, alias Babu, a resident of the colony, at the Maloya police station. TNS UT cop shoots self dead at Dhanas home Chandigarh, May 30 A Chandigarh Police constable allegedly shot himself with his service weapon at his house in Police Complex, Dhanas, on Thursday night. Kailash (35), the deceased, was posted with the security wing at the District Court. According to officials, he reached home around 6 pm after completing his duty shift from 8:30 am to 5 pm. He allegedly shot himself around 9.45 pm when he was alone at home. His wife and son had stepped out for a walk. On hearing the gunshot, they rushed back home and found him gravely injured. The cop was rushed to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research where he was declared dead on arrival. A PCR team and forensic experts reached the spot soon after getting information about the incident. Initial findings suggested that Constable Kailash might have been under personal stress, though the exact cause of his action remains unclear. No suicide note was found at the scene. — TNS Tribune News Service Chandigarh, May 30 The Municipal Corporation (MC) has proposed a big hike in the booking rates of community centres. To generate more revenue, the civic body is also planning to allow commercial activities like exhibitions in the community centres and restricting the bookings for resident welfare association (RWA) events. The RWAs will not be given community centres free of charge for their meetings and they will not be allowed to put advertisements of sponsors at the venue. An agenda for the draft policy for the management of community centres will be placed in the next General House meeting of the MC along with the recommendations of a committee of councillors formed for the purpose. The panel has recommended to fix the rates as per the category of the community centres. It has been proposed to charge Rs 60,000 for category A community centres and Rs 40,000 and Rs 30,000 for B and C categories, respectively. Presently, the charges of these community centres Hoax bomb threat at Haryana Secretariat, CM Saini’s residence Tribune News Service Chandigarh, May 30 A bomb threat received via email on Friday afternoon sent shockwaves through Chandigarh’s high-security zone, prompting the immediate evacuation of the Haryana Civil Secretariat and the official residence of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. The alert, flagged by the Haryana Criminal Investigation Department (CID), warned of a possible bomb blast and even suggested a fidayeen (suicide) attack. In response, a large-scale security operation was launched involving the Central Indus- trial Security Force (CISF), Chandigarh Police, and specialised bomb disposal squads from the Chandigarh and Haryana Police. The entire area around the Secretariat and the Chief Minister’s residence was cordoned off. For several hours, sniffer dogs and bomb detection teams scoured the buildings but no explosive device was found, following which the threat was confirmed to be a hoax. The suspects have been identified as Jind resident Naveen and New Delhi residents Darpan and Parharsh Anurag. The arrests were made during the first Qualifier between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Mullanpur stadium. An FIR has been registered at the Mullanpur police station on May 29. The suspects had a large number of tickets and were selling them at inflated prices near the stadium. Police sources said Parveen Mittal, one of the deceased persons, had purchased it through an online platform under the guise of a commercial food preservative. Investigators believe that the chemical, in powdered form, was mixed into a cold drink and consumed by the Mittal family on Monday evening in a car parked at Sector 27 in Panchkula. Fresh surveillance footage showed the car in which the seven members, including Parveen’s wife, three children and parents, allegedly ‘took poison’ near the Old Panchkula roundabout around 5 pm. The car remained parked in Sector 27 since 6.30 pm on the fateful day and was discovered around 10 pm by neighbours for suspicious activity, which prompted a call to ‘112’ and arrival of the police and ambulance. On the pattern of Delhi, the UT Tourism Department is going to provide a platform to artistes to perform in the city gardens or parks for an hour in the evening. The department is going to provide an opportunity to budding singers and instrumental artistes to perform at famous tourist spots and gardens such as Rose Garden, Shanti Kunj and other prominent landmarks. Chandigarh, May 30 In a major step towards promoting cleanliness and enforcing public hygiene, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has launched a dedicated WhatsApp number 9915762917 to report incidents of littering in public places. Announcing the initiative, MC Commissioner Amit Kumar stated, “With active participation of citizens, we can eliminate littering completely. The initiative empowers people to become Swachhata warriors for a cleaner Chandigarh.” Residents can click photos or shoot videos of individuals littering in public spaces and share these through WhatsApp. The images will not only be used to identify and penalise offenders under the Municipal Solid Waste Management Rules. The identity of complainants or senders will be kept confidential. Four violators were issued challans last evening time through surveillance footage from CCTV cameras. The WhatsApp initiative is expected to further strengthen such enforcement measures. Besides WhatsApp, the citizens can also register complaints related to sanitation services through Swachhata App and I’m Chandigarh App. These platforms allow for easy submission and tracking of grievances related to waste collection, cleanliness and sanitation maintenance. Painter held for wife’s murder Chandigarh, May 30 The police have arrested the husband of a woman from Maloya, who was declared brought dead at a city hospital on May 28, on the murder charge. The 34-year-old suspect, Ramesh, a painter by profession, was booked under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Maloya police station. The incident had come to light when the GMSH-16 reported to the police that a woman, identified as 25-year-old Pinky Devi, was brought dead to the hospital. The victim’s children, aged 10 and 7, and her father-inlaw revealed that she had been stabbed in the stomach by her husband Ramesh following a domestic dispute. Ramesh, who had fled after the assault, was nabbed on Thursday and produced in court, which remanded him in judicial custody. — TNS
