The accused have been identified as Himanshu of Danewal village, his mother Gurbaksh Kaur, sisters Harpreet Kaur and Samayal, and his brother Aniket Baba Bagu of Gillan village and Dr Saleem of Bhadman village. Prabhjot Kaur of Eeda village has complained to the police that the accused tortured her for dowry. No arrests have been made and raids are being conducted to nab them. OC Garbage on plots, 50 more get notices for defying order Tribune News Service Jalandhar, August 5 The Jalandhar district administration had launched a campaign to clear garbage heaps from vacant plots. Under this initiative, over 50 notices have been issued to plot owners for negligence in maintaining cleanliness. Over 250 notices were sent to plot owners about 20 days ago. Now, the administration has issued more than 300 notices, including 50 new ones. Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal stated that action is being taken against the plot owners who fail to keep their plots clean, with over 300 notices already issued. He noted that many plot owners are cooperating with the administration, with owners not only cleaning their plots, but also constructing boundary walls. Dr Aggarwal strictly instructed other plot owners to clean their plots and make boundary walls to prevent the spread of diseases during the ongoing monsoon season. He added that over 60 complaints related to plot cleanliness have been resolved through the Action Helpline WhatsApp number 9646-222555. No one was injured in the accident. According to witnesses, the mishap took place due to an alleged failure of the crane’s lifting mechanism. Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said a case had been registered on an online complaint lodged by a resident of Ludhiana on the Chief Minister Anti-Corruption Action line. He further added that the complainant has alleged that the accused had demanded Rs 6,000 as a bribe in lieu of entering the mutation of land belonging to his family member. Three youths were going back to their houses on a scooter after enjoying a birthday bash when the tragedy struck. Their scooter collided with an electric pole, leaving two youths dead. They were identified as Vansh from Garha and Sunil Kumar from Sansarpur. Chetan, also from Garha, is critically injured. Witnesses informed the police. By the time the ambulance arrived, Vansh and Sunil had already succumbed to their injuries. It scared local farmers, many of whom feared a repeat of 2023 devastation that had destroyed their paddy crop. However, officials from the Agriculture Department conducted a ground-level assessment and found that the water has begun to recede significantly across the most affected areas. “The water levels have already gone down in many parts and if this trend continues, the paddy crop will survive,” said Jaspal Singh, Agriculture Development Officer. “There’s no need for panic at the moment. Everything is under control.” “For the past two days, the water level has been reced- Water in the fields in a village in Sultanpur Lodhi . ing. If the water drains out within the next few days, the paddy crop can be saved,” the official further added. Farmers, though initially distressed, are now cautiously optimistic. Sukhwinder Singh, a farmer from Jhuggiya Bandu village, shared his experience: “Two days ago, the water in fields was up to 34 feet in some areas. It was alarming. But it has reduced considerably. We are hopeful that everything will be fine.” As per information, in Pasem Kadeem village, there was loss of fodder in some places. The memory of last time’s floods still haunts many in the region. In 2023, the deluge had destroyed several acres of standing crops, leaving many farmers in c m y b financial distress. This year, the farmers are praying for the rains to relent. “We know there is no worry for now, but things should remain under control in the coming days as well,” one of the farmers said.
