They were identified as Rohit, Baljinder and Ishwar. Two of them were caught by nearby shopkeepers. Gurmeet Singh said he had a shop, Shera Sports, in Model Town. On September 20, three persons came to his shop and introduced themselves as officials of JMIP Company, Delhi, and told him that they check copyright violations at shops. “They brandished a gun and demanded Rs 1 lakh. My nephew Simranjit told me that the suspects also visited his shop on September 18 and had taken Rs 50,000 from him. Afterwards, I called other traders, who caught Rohit and Baljinder and handed them over to the police. Sept 30 last day to avail 10 per cent rebate on property tax After one hour, they lift protest after assurance from SDM, DCP Tribune News Service Ludhiana, September 21 Expressing anger against the delay in repairing dilapidated roads in the Sahnewal area, farmers on Sunday laid a siege to the Ladhowal toll barrier on the LudhianaJalandhar highway and allowed vehicles to pass without paying any fee. Members of the Bharatiya Kisan Mazdoor Union arrived at the toll plaza around 1:30 pm. After about one hour, farmers lifted the protest as Sahnewal SDM Jasneet Kaur and DCP Harpal Singh reached the spot and assured the farmers that the repair works would start from Monday onwards. Earlier, toll plaza manager Vipan met the farmers. He pleaded with folded hands not to make the toll plaza toll free. He said: “We support the farmers but we have nothing to do with other roads. You should talk to the DC in this regard.” Meanwhile, the police remained on alert due to the farmers’ protest. Tribune News Service Ludhiana, September 21 With September 30 last day to avail 10 per cent rebate on payment of property tax for the current financial year (2025-26), the Municipal Corporation (MC) has appealed to residents to submit the same in time and avail the rebate. As per officials, over 1 lakh property owners in the city are yet to pay property tax for the current financial year and they would not be able to avail the rebate after September 30. The officials said residents could avail a 10 per cent rebate on payment of property tax for the current financial year, if the payment is Over 1L property owners yet to pay tax in city done by September 30. No penalty is imposed on payment of tax from October 1 to December 31 while the department imposes a 10 per cent penalty on payment of tax from January 1 to March 31. The penalty is increased to 20 per cent and 18 per cent annual interest is also imposed, if the residents fail to pay the tax for the current financial year by March 31. Mayor Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal said to avoid standing in long queues, the residents could also submit pending dues online by visiting the website of the civic Innovation That Drives Future Skills. Besides working days, the kendras remained open on September 20 (Saturday) and will remain open on September 22 (Monday), which is a government holiday, September 27 (Saturday) and September 28 (Sunday) too during the working hours. Funds for the works had already been approved. Rahon Road area had come to the toll plaza and demanded that the road be repaired as it was in a bad condition. Many street vendors encroach upon space along the road, causing inconvenience to commuters. The Deputy Commissioner has already ordered removal of the encroachments. The SDM said now, as per public demand, the road work would begin on Monday. Repair of other broken roads would also be done. Funds for the road constructions had already been approved, only the project had been slightly modified. Dilbag Singh Gill, another member of the union, said the condition of roads from Mangali village to Ladhowal toll was bad, due to which people were facing problems. The condition of Rahon Road was also bad due to which commuting on the stretch was a nightmare. Meanwhile, in the evening, the stretch from Mangli village to Basti Jodhewal Chowk witnessed traffic jams due to encroachments by street vendors. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
