Station House Officer (SHO) Palwindar Singh said the accused was identified as Darshan Singh, a resident of Sangowal village. He said a case under Sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 221 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) of the BNS and Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Punjab Excise Act was registered against the accused. OC TWO BOOKED FOR LOOTING JEWELLERY Phagwara: The Nakodar city police have booked two unidentified persons on the charge of looting gold and silver jewellery from a woman. Surjit Kaur, a resident of Mohalla Sundar Nagar, complained to the police that two unidentified persons barged into her house on April 3 night and looted gold and silver ornaments and also snatched her earrings and chain on point of sharp weapons. Investigating officer Davindar Singh said a case under Sections 309(4), 305 , 3(5) and 127(2) of the BNS was registered against unidentified accused. OC TWO ARRESTED UNDER NDPS ACT Phagwara: The Nakodar Sadar police have arrested a drug peddler on the charge of selling heroin. Investigating officer (IO) Jaspal Singh said 7 grams of heroin was recovered from the possession of the accused identified as Kulwindar Singh, a resident of Chak Khurd village. He said a case under Sections 21-B, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the accused. In the second incident, the Shahkot police arrested Lakhwindar Singh, alias Nikka, a resident of Langewal village after recovering drug from him, said IO Buta Ram. OC MAN BOOKED FOR ISSUING THREAT Phagwara: The Bilga police have booked Sikhs for Justice Chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannu on the charge of threatening a Dalit leader. Avtar Singh Karimpuri, Dalit leader, who is resident of Mahalpur village, complained to the police that the accused vandalised glass around the statute of Dr BR Ambedkar at Nagal village near Phillaur and wrote “Sikhs are not Hindus” and "Trump zindabad" slogans on the glass. Karimpuri said Pannu had taken responsibility for the defacement of Dr Ambedkar’s statue. In his complaint to the police, Karimpuri stated that Pannu was now threatening him with dire consequences. OC ‘NO WORK DAY’ FOR LAWYERS Phagwara: All members of the local Bar Association headed by its president Ravinder Sharma observed “No work day” on Saturday. Senior lawyers of the Bar Association, Lalit Chopra, Vijay Sharma and Munish Sareen, said their demands include implementation of a five-day working week. Bar Association general secretary Dhandeep Kaur said lawyers had been demanding five-day working week similar to higher appellate courts. OC Stray dog mauls 6-yr-old boy at Tower Enclave, video goes viral Tribune News Service Jalandhar, April 5 A stray dog today mauled a six-year-old child in the Tower Enclave locality of Jalandhar. The boy was seriously injured in the incident. Stray dog bite incidents are reported frequently in the city. This is the second such gruesome incident in the Wadala Chowk locality reported during the last three months. Three months ago, a pack of stray dogs had mauled a 65year-old woman, who kept shrieking until some neighbours intervened and the canine dispersed. Today’s incident was reported from a neighbouring locality to the one where the woman was attacked by stray dogs. The injured child has been identified as Sarthak. In a CCTV video of the incident, which has gone viral, a little boy is seen stomping on the road, moments after which, a stray dog comes running and attacks him. As per reports, the boy sustained over an inch deep injuries on his side and arm. In the video footage, after being attacked by the dog, the child seeks cover near the gate of a house, but the canine pursues him and drags him until residents come rushing after which the dog flees. The video makes it amply clear that any delay in intervention by passersby could have turned things fatal for the boy. The boy’s family released a video asking the administration to resolve the problem of stray canine at the earliest. Child’s father Devnath Bhatia and his family said, “Children cannot be stopped from playing on streets. The growing fear of dogs among residents has sent the alarm bells ringing.” Bhatia said his family got the boy vaccinated. He said they learnt that 50 dog bites had been reported in the city. A study has found that there has been three per cent increase in category III dog bite cases in 2024 as compared to 2023. In all, 41,005 cases of dog bites have been reported in Jalandhar in the past two years. As per the data given in the study, there has been a 27.79 per cent increase in dog bite cases in Jalandhar during the past few years. 3 drug peddlers arrested, heroin, capsules seized Phagwara, April 5 The police have arrested three drug peddlers and recovered 12 grams of heroin and 30 intoxicating tablets from their possession. The accused, identified as Satnam, of Gauhawar village near Goraya, Gurpreet Singh, of Madhopur village, and Gaurav Kumar, of Nangal Colony, Phagwara, were nabbed at three different check-points. Five grams of heroin was recovered from Satnam, seven grams of heroin from Gaurav and 30 intoxicating tablets from Gurpreet, the police said. The arrests were made under the supervision of SP (D) Sarabjit Rai. In the first case, during a routine patrolling near Talwandi Mehima village, a police team led by DSP (D) Parminder Singh and CIA incharge Inspector Jarnail Singh apprehended Anil Kumar, a resident of Bihar. Upon checking, the police recovered 2.6 kilograms of opium from his possession. A case was registered against him at the Sadar police station after arresting him. The police also named his accomplice, Santosh, who reportedly fled back to Bihar, in the FIR. Raids are underway to trace and arrest him. In the second case, a CIA team acting on a tip-off, intercepted a Mahindra Bolero Camper near Kanjli village. Two accused — Major Singh and Lakhwinder Singh alias Kalu, both residents of Jogiwal village under the Ajnala police station, Amritsar district, who were travelling in the vehicle, were taken into custody after recovery of 250 grams of heroin from their possession. A case was registered against both the accused at the Kotwali police station in this connection. They were remanded into police custody for further interrogation. Jalandhar, April 5 The Commissionerate Police have apprehended three persons involved in snatchings in the city. Commissioner of Police (CP) Dhanpreet Kaur said a team from Basti Bawa Khel police station was on routine patrol in Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Nagar during which they received information about a group of three individuals — Preetpal Singh, Kirpal Singh and Ravi, all residents of Mithu Basti — who were habitual snatchers. Phagwara, April 5 In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the police arrested two drug peddlers with a large quantity of intoxicanting pills and capsules near the canal bridge between Dhuletta and Phalpota villages. Giving information in this connection, Phillaur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sarwan Singh Ball said Inspector Sikander Singh, SHO, along with Assistant Sub-Inspector Subhash Kumar, in-charge, Dhuletta police post, and a police team apprehended Rajat, alias Tanu, a resident of Patti Lalo Ki Bara village, and Ajay Kumar, a resident of Dhuletta village. During search, the police recovered 195 loose intoxicanting pills, 610 intoxicanting capsules (dark red colour) and a Bajaj Platina motorcycle bearing registration number P2-08-451425 from the possession of the two accused, he said. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
