Malsian police post in-charge Kewal Singh said the suspects, were identified as Gursewak Singh, alias Somu, a resident of Kamalgarh village in Ferozepur district, and Navdeep Singh, alias Nandu, a resident of Pati Shahla Nagar, Malsian village. Vinod Kumar, a resident of Bir Pind village, complained to the police that the suspects had been stealing potato bags stored in Khehra Farm and Cold Store at Pati Shahla Nagar for the last 15 days. Kewal said a case under Sections 457 (lurking house trespass), 380 (theft in dwelling house) and 34 (committing crime with common intention) of the IPC had been registered against the suspects. OC ONE HELD FOR KILLING PET DOG Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a villager on the charge of killing a pet dog. Malsian police post in-charge Kewal Singh said the suspect, was identified as Balraj Singh, a resident of Nihaloo Wal village. Sudagar Singh, a resident of the same village, had complained to the police that the suspect knowingly crushed to death his pet dog under his car on June 5 evening. Kewal said a case under Section 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle) of the IPC was registered against the suspect. OC WOMAN HELD WITH HEROIN Phillaur: The police arrested a woman drug peddler and recovered 52 grams of heroin from her possession on Friday night. Ankur Gupta, SSP, said the arrested suspect, was identified as Amarjit Kaur, a resident of Talwandi Kalan village, near Ladhowal. The suspect was nabbed at a hightech naka near Phillaur. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against the suspect, the SSP said. OC MOBILE TOWER BATTERIES STOLEN Phagwara: The Nakodar Sadar police have booked unidentified persons on the charge of stealing batteries from a mobile tower. Kuldeep Singh, a resident of SAS Nagar (Mohali), complained to the police that unidentified suspects stole batteries from a mobile tower of Jio company installed at Naragpur village on May 28 night. Investigating officer (IO) Balvir Singh said a case under Section 379 (theft) of the IPC had been registered against unidentified suspects in this connection. The area has a large number of families living in unsafe houses which can collapse anytime. There are several pockets within Basti Danishmandan, Basti Guzan, Basti Sheikh and Basti Nau, which have congested population living under kutcha roofs, which start leaking as soon as the monsoon season arrives. These pockets, including Shivaji Nagar, Lasoori Mohalla, New Raseela Nagar, Begampura Mohall and Kot Sadiq, have several houses where the benefit of PM Awas Yojana has not reached the needy families. Nisha Rani, a resident of Shivaji Nagar, showed the condition of her house. The roof of the washroom at her house has given way. Her temporary washroom does not have a fixed door. The roof of the room under which she, her husband Raj Kumar and her teenage son sleep has wooden panels covered by tarpaulin sheets. “With arrival of the monsoon our lives will become miserable. Investigating Officer (IO) Satpal said the suspect, was identified as Manjinder Singh, alias Ramna, a resident of Kadian village. ASI Gurdev Singh, a resident of Bhadma village, told the police that a police party went to arrest a suspect in an assault case registered in 2020. The deceased were identified as Rajinder Singh (50), a resident of Goindwal Sahib, near Tarn Taran, and the car driver, was identified as Atiq Khan, also a resident of Goindwal Sahib. Former Singpur Jatta village sarpanch Kuldeep Singh said Makhan Singh was a poor farmer and was survived by four daughters. There was no other earning member in his family, he said. He said Makhan had gone to someone’s field to cut fodder for animals two days ago. While he was cutting fodder, an electricity wire snapped due to strong wind and fell in the field. Makhan’s foot came in contact with the live wire and he got electrocuted. Villagers have demanded that the state government should provide adequate financial help to the victim’s family. Earlier, an FIR was registered in the extortion case under Sections 384, 386, 387, 212, 216A, and 120B of the IPC at the Division No. 6 police station. After registering the FIR, police teams were formed, and raids conducted leading to the successful arrests of the family members of Lakhbir and Yadwinder. Those arrested were identified as Ranjodh Singh, brother-in-law of Lakhbir Singh, Family members of gangsters Lakhbir Singh Landa and Yadwinder Singh in custody of the Jalandhar police on Saturday. One of them opened fire at Jatinder Singh, a security guard on duty, in an attempt to murder him. Prior to this, the owner of the firm had received a ransom call from an international number, which he ignored. The suspects opened fire at the guard to intimidate the firm owner. So far, the police had arrested three associates of Lakhbir Singh Landa and Yadwinder Singh, who were involved in the firing incident and six of their family members. Jalandhar, June 15 Though today was the second day for filing of nomination papers for Jalandhar West Assembly bypoll, no candidate filed his/her paper till Saturday. No political party has announced its candidate for the bypoll. All parties have almost finalised their candidates, but are perhaps delaying the announcement since no nominations are to be filed on Sunday and Monday (on account of Eid). The Congress has left the entire decision upon its former Chief Minister and Jalandhar MP-elect Charanjit S Channi. Other parties too have already held meetings and taken a call internally. In a statement given to the police, Ajay stated that he was posted as assistant manager in Dasuya branch of Fusion Micro Finance Limited. He was at his office when around 9.30 pm a clean shaven and a turbaned person barged in and pointed pistols at him and his co-workers. They threatened to shoot them if they failed to give them all the money they had. After issuing threats, the robbers forcibly took out Rs 2,27,000 kept in the cash box at the office. They also forcibly took out Rs 6,000 kept in a cupboard and fled A CCTV grab shows robbery in progress at a finance firm office in Dasuya. from the spot on a motorcycle with their third partner, who was standing outside the company office.
